I have been on eBay for 20 years, and I am not going to make the threat that I am not going to sell here. It is out of control though, and I don't know if CEOs have changed. Don't know the chain of command and don't care. I have always jumped the hoops and followed all of their policies, but now it is a buyer's free for all. When I get a return, now 10 times per year, originally once every 3-5 years. When I have fallen into the trap of a criminal buyer, I do try to state my case. Five years ago eBay agents DID read the information and sided with me on more than one occasion. I have found out now, there is no reading by anyone at eBay. It is automatic. The seller wins, you lose. This year I have lost over $1,000 because of this new policy.
Even worse, what I did not realize, was that I went from Top Rated Plus to Below Standard. I thought, so what? I will not get the 10 percent discount, that used to be 20 percent.
Oh, there is so much more eBay chooses to punish you with. Here it is in case you don't know. The $100 coverage for insurance for USPS changes to $50, no more global shipping allowed, you come up in the search, dead last. If there are 40 items on like yours, you are not getting seen. And worst of all the new 30 cent per item plus 13 percent taken away from sellers including the shipping you pay (never understood that!) includes another 6 percent, with a note that says, you are below standard. So basically you are paying almost 20 percent for every sale. To add insult to injury, I changed back to Top Rated on October 20. They are continuing to charge the below average fee until November 1. I am just supposed to understand that that is their "billing cycle."
I don't spend much time on these boards, but really wanted to let sellers know that you must take all returns with a smile, thank them, and of course, you can report the buyer, PLEASE, that is just to make you feel better. Nothing ever happens to these scammers. Is it costing eBay anything? No, so let them do to the sellers as they please, there will always be other suckers willing to sell on eBay, just like me. Just smile and say thank you eBay for running the prices of collectibles into the ground for the last ten years. Thank you, eBay Master, I will continue to follow!

All this **bleep** seemed to start back when they decided they wanted to be the next Amazon. Unfortunately, as a buyer, Amazon is where I buy most of my new stuff nowadays.

I'm sorry this has happened to you but a couple of things. 1st the 100 in insurance went down to 50 through USPS and UPS on its own several years back and your 30 cents per transaction PayPal started keeping last year unless you are in eBays managed payments and they keep it as well. Neither one of these have anything to do with being below standard with eBay. Good Luck.

Going from Top Rated to Below Standard, doesn't mean you've only lost the discount,
it means you are in danger here and need to bring your numbers up.
And you don't have to take every "return".. but you do have to accept returns for Not As Described complaints, generally speaking.
Not accepting those NAD returns, usually means that eBay will step in and solve the case for you, hitting you with a case-closed-without-seller-resolution defect.
Is this what has happened to you?
Apologies if I don't understand.
Thanks,
Lynn

You are incorrect. I have always had $100 of insurance for USPS. It is now back up to $100 since October 20 when I returned to Top Rated. Perhaps you are rated Above Standard, you would only get $50 worth of insurance.
The 30 cents is assessed to all sellers with managed payments, but all sellers do NOT have to pay another 6 percent on top of the 13 percent and the 30 cents per item you would be charged no matter what your rating might be. Clearly states, extra fee because seller is below standard. You may just have to experience this to know what will happen.
It was also shocking that all my auctions marked for global shipping just disappeared. After October 20, I had to go in and correct over 125 auctions to add the global shipping. They just ripped it out of my auctions, but did not put it back. I had to do that.

A buyer returned an item. She received her refund. I did not choose to pay her shipping. Why did eBay even give me that option? I thought that was OK. I had been extremely nice throughout. She never contacted me, but she escalated and one minute after escalation, got an email from eBay, we have sided with buyer. That took my average to below standard. I called eBay and said that I did not even have the opportunity to pay her shipping. They agreed and took the "without resolution" off, but I had to wait for another three weeks for them to change it back to Top Rated. At that time I found out all the terrible things eBay will do to you if you don't get in lock step with them.

Strangely, I am an Amazon buyer as well. Rarely do I buy anything on eBay.

Isn't there a step between Top Rated and Below Standard- like just 'Standard' and that would be a warning?

It is called Above standard.

THERE IS A STEP, BUT I WENT STRAIGHT FROM TOP RATED TO BELOW STANDARD. I sell about 200+ items per year that average about $100 each. I had two "without resolution" because I was not going to take their guff, and hit number three and that was IT! Went straight to Below Standard. I thought I was only losing the pathetic 10 percent discount. I had no idea all the other punishments eBay would enforce. I know NOW, let buyers say and do anything, and I mean anything they want, when I just can't take it any more, see what else is out there. Etsy, maybe?

So true.

I have had the same thing happen to me this month. I have been a seller here for 16 years with excellent feedback (not that matters at all to e-bay) and my ratings went from Top Rated to Below Standard and have been penalized, like yourself, due to two scammers. I have not joined MP and consequently can no longer list on this platform.
My store subscription ends in December and I am counting the days and looking forward to leaving this 3-ring circus....it is truly a nightmare!

It's upsetting to see so many long-time sellers being tossed aside.
Our turn is coming, I'm sure.
