Plenty of bands let fans record shows and trade recordings. But I have never heard of a band saying it is okay for fans to SELL THEM FOR PROFIT ON EBAY.
Not only that, but music publishers often have a half-interest in the songs, and I sincerely doubt the artist has the power to let strangers sell published songs at a profit and cut out the publisher and his interest.

I am 79 and, although I have heard the name Eric Clapton, I am completely ignorant concerning his music. If indeed the widow, or her legal rep responded "Sue Me," she received what she requested. Perhaps at some point in time, younger folks will return to the concept of the 40s and 50s when adults took responsibility for their actions.

Kabilab, Clapton is in the Rock and roll hall of fame 3 separate times.
As a member of the Yardbirds
As a member of Cream
As a solo artist
He's considered by most, to be the greatest rock and roll (And blues) guitarist ever.

Have heard of him but I can honestly say I cannot name one of his pieces. Just not that impressed I guess.

That is a good one, and caused me a laugh:
Don't you know its always some one else's fault this day and age, never your own......

We all have our personal choices in music.
I know who Taylor Swift is, But couldn't separate her from all the other women pop singers today. They all sound the same to me.
In 1969 my Father claimed that the Stones and the Beatles and Steppenwolf and The Who all
sounded the same to him.
What goes round..........

While this example is extreme, it is a great reminder to not sell bootleg CDs, cassettes, vinyl, etc.
I have an extensive music collection - have often joked I was the only one who bought it on vinyl, then 8-track, then cassette, then CD and sometimes a box set and digitally remastered and now re-release vinyl. Lol
I have a bunch of bootlegs from local music stores or bought online over the years. If you look on this site, there are many listed.
This article drew my attention because it was Clapton. Huge fan of his. Hendrix was likely the greatest guitarist ever - Clapton the greatest still alive.
A lot of effort over an $11 bootleg CD. Understand the "why" they sued her, but seemed extremed/still does.

The woman was contacted by Clapton's representatives, told it was a bootleg, and her response was to tell them to stop harassing her and to go ahead and sue her. And when that happened, she told lawyers she wanted to go to court in a case where she didn't have a leg to stand on.
As the VERO rep for a couple music artists, I have run into similar people who feel entitled to steal even when asked politely not to. I have no sympathy for her. She made her own bed.

I agree. Frankly, there is no excuse for stealing anyone's intellectual property. Personally, even without her attitude I don't feel sorry for someone that infringes on the an artist's rights. Nor do I feel that a rights owner has somehow taken advantage of anyone when the take steps to protect their rights.

Kat, You and are two alike. I also had the habit of LP, Tape, then CD of the same albums with my focus
mainly Live performances.
Bootlegs have always been a part of music. Just bad ju-ju to sell them out in the open.
Some bands don't care, Some do.

One of my favorite EC "songs" is a collaboration with Tracy Chapman.
