When I log into my eBay account, The 1st page I see has a HUGE Banner add across the top of the page.
And under it, I see a bunch of my "recently viewed" items.
The question is about that big banner add? I can arrow right a few times and see a different banner add each click.
How does one go about getting that big banner add?
My 1st add is to search Hollander Yards for used parts. Clicking it takes you to a place where you only see used parts that Hollander Salvage Yards have listed. Makes me think it's a Hollander Co perk. Hollander has enough money and pull to get an add like that for their clients.
But, a few adds over takes me to an individual trading card seller with 600 listings. I'm pretty sure they didn't pay a huge amount to get that add.
So, just curious if anybody knows how to get a big banner add up there like that?

That'd be talking to eBay's marketing folks... They may be accessible or not, they may approach vendors often more likely than vendors approaching them. It's called a "Scroller" and dont think the card seller isn't paying much, they've 1.2 million ratings, graded cards and they are all auctions many of which go for pretty big money. Have to realize savvy card dealers get cards for dirt or even sit on them for years. In a way cards like stamp or coin dealers, the really good ones know the game no pun intended and are experts at the poker face.

@retro_entertainment_collectibles , Ahh, I just saw the card seller had 600 listings. Never checked the priors.
Just wondering how a person got that done (an add like that). Huge, Top Center, Flashy, Can't Miss It, and likely accidentally go there.
That bypassed all of eBay and took a buyer straight to a sellers listings.
Looked like Big $$$$ to me.

There's all sorts of varieties "web scrollers" been created with all forms of effects displaying images. Essentially a programming language built into your webrowser called Javascript does all the heavy lifting. Images are just normal .JPG's or .PNG's that scroll into view on some timer program code along with a link.
Buying into those spots for max visibility tends be costly at places like this. eBay doesn't maximize its web real-estate really. Every category level optimally would have scrollers so when you for example navigate to "Mens goods" should be a scroller there whereby someone bought into promotions. Obviously more people search than do natural navigation which IMHO these days given most people using cellphones is a mistake or potential one. This is to say every click into a genre of goods is doing a whole lot of narrowing and allows for additional exposures of potential product offerings. It's not easy taking what is generally a website that is very list oriented and positioning it well for logical browsing and search at the sametime when there is so much data like eBay has.

@redlinear I think you'll find that most, if not all, the items in those banner ads are items from ebay's Focus Categories (P&A, luxury handbags, watches, trading cards, sneakers, etc). So, yes, sellers may be paying ebay for that placement, but it may also be that ebay is providing the placement for free or a small sum as long as the sellers meet certain criteria---because this is part of ebay's "target marketing" and so is viewed as an ebay marketing expense.
I believe you can apply to be considered for "deal" placement.

Send an email to EbayDeals-SellerCommunications@ebay.com with your ebay seller ID and indicate you want to be vetted for Daily Deals.
Of course, there's no guarantee that you will meet the requirements.
But you can certainly try.
