Im still a confused idiot. Seller fees and tax were explained to me in math equations and it all pans out. However I have to break this down into stupid mind bending laymen's terms. So... Item sold for $30.00. Buyer paid $43.58 ( shipping costs= $10 plus tax ?) I end up w $33.00 after tax n fees deductions and still have to pay $10+ shipping out of the $33.00. So with shipping cost and tax and fees I end up w $22.00 roughly. Its not a huge loss as this is a small ticket item. I have 2 questions... is the $3.32 missing in my total the tax the buyer paid and am I taxed on the tax?

Next question...If I decide to use free shipping will the fees/tax be the same?

Thanks anyone for helping this math deficient seller!

According to what you posted, you ended up with $34.58, not $33.00. If your actual shipping cost was $10, then your net was $24.58 on a $30 sale. If that caused you to lose money, you're doing it wrong.

If you sold the item for $40 with free shipping, it's possible the fees would have been slightly higher; it depends on whether the buyer's state requires sales tax to be charged on the shipping cost.

I appreciate your help! Is the order total less than the actual total buyer paid? Trying to understand why order total is different than what buyer paid. The fees are exactly correct when deducted  from what buyer paid but not order total.  The item sold for $30

For now I would like to know why a few dollars were eliminated from the total. Then I will be able to grasp the math part.

The order total is what the buyer paid YOU. It doesn't include the sales tax that the buyer pays, but you never see. Yes, the fees are on the entire amount plus sales tax.

From the sales record, which shows the entire total the buyer pays:

57a059f6f600748db2cb081c8cd02f92

From the payment details, which is the amount YOU receive, minus the fees:

d3e84f7601156bbdf21a851c2cc8339a

Notice that the amount you receive does not include the sales tax the buyer paid.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

The $3.32 is the eBay collected sales tax.  The buyer has paid this tax.  eBay collected it and will remit it to the buyer's state.  You pay the FVF on the total amount of 43.58, but do not ever actually have the sales tax portion of the funds.
