Just looking for opinions. Video game manuals only, no game, no case. Each manual is a minimum of 10 pages long. No adverts in them. I am guessing yes but what do you guys think?

That might meet the USPS definition of a book. IIRC the book must be bound, though staples count.

However, that item sounds small enough to ship economically as a First Class package.

There are 50 of them and they weight 2lbs. They are stapled and bound. I have read through the stats for media and I am coming up yes but just making sure.

Welll... looking into this got kind of weird.
First, the USPS Media Mail Eligibility quick reference chart (here) gives a flat "Yes" for the Instruction Manuals category (near the bottom of the page, under "OTHER MISC"). You do need to be sending the manuals by themselves, not with any other item (such as the game itself) that doesn't qualify. So as far as that goes, I would think you'd be okay if they're as you described and not accompanied by any merchandise, although I agree with others here that First Class Package would be a better Shipping choice in general.
Here's where things got a little strange. The reference for their Yes ruling cites DMM 173.4.1.g (here), so off I went to read that. Paragraph 173.4.1.g turns out to be a big honking 14-line paragraph going on and on about "educational reference charts," and little else. Samples they cite are mainly reference charts and verb conjugation tables and similar, but nothing remotely close to "Instruction Manuals" at all.
If I was proofing their quick reference chart, I would have definitely queried that cite, because it looks wrong to me... I mean, it looks irrelevant, not an explanation that even comes close to discussing instruction manuals.
So on the basis of a general definition of what constitutes Media Mail, I would say that the instruction manuals by themselves in a package should qualify, and the Quick Reference chart backs me up on that, but the DMM does not (at least, not that paragraph). All that aside, I'd reserve Media Mail for hopelessly big and heavy publications, and send those game manuals by First Class Package, so that the recipient doesn't have to wait forever to receive them.

They qualify.

Nice catch! I notice that the cell above the one about manuals also has the same citation and in a relevant context. So I share your suspicion that it was a typo, which was entered into the second box accidentally. Now I wonder what info should have been in that cell.

Yes an instruction manual is media mail.
Manuals – Media Mail
UPDATED June 2014
PS-045 (273.3.1)
This CSR discusses the eligibility of manuals at the Media Mail prices.
Domestic Mail Manual (DMM) 273.3.1 provides that books mailed at the Media Mail price may contain no advertising matter other than incidental announcements of books. In the past, some shop manuals and auto repair manuals were not accepted at the Media Mail price as books because brand name references were viewed as advertising or because they were produced by the manufacturer of the product. The parts references and manufacturers' names are essential to the accuracy of the service instructions. They are not referenced for advertising purposes. The product and brand names are not disqualifying for this price, nor is the fact that they may be produced by the manufacturer of the product.

Yes. Manuals do indeed qualify for Media Mail.
