At the time the UK fee was first announced, ebay's CEO was asked if this would be coming to the US, and he responded with a pretty firm "no"....they are very different markets.
That said, one should never take anything ebay says about ebay policy as a final, final answer. But for now, I'm definitely not expecting to see it here anytime in the near future at least.

Are Buyer Protection Fees coming to US?
@14thebox
Of course, we don't know. At the same time we have never known eBay to give up on any policy that makes them more money no matter how unpopular it is with the customers.
In any event, eBay will have to likely call it something else. Why pay a 'buyer protection fee' for eBay to hold the seller's money until delivery? It matters not to a buyer if a seller's money is held or not, as they still have the Money Back Guarantee. Sounds like an "ebay protection fee" LOL, sort of a 'wolf in sheep's clothing' sort of thing.

Thanks but this is the .com US boards.
So? The OP was simply asking a question that relates to the US site. Why the attitude?

Is it possible that their reply was before the OP edited their post to relate to the US board?
🤔

I seriously doubt it. Mercari did this and it very negatively affected their marketplace. As a buyer and a seller I think buyer fees are a horrific idea. Nobody wants to pay that. Should be built into the platform and seller costs.

Any time I see " buyers premium " listed for an auction, I don't attend. With the fees, taxes and high shipping, eBay items are starting to get a bit expensive already. Page views and sales are down from the past. No question about that.

There was no attitude.
The Poster edited the title and post AFTER I responded.
If you thought there was "attitude" that is on you.

Usually policy changes like these are not due to whimsical decisions, but laws that are introduced in other countries that don't affect, say, the US. eBay still has to abide by and adjust to these.
You can't assume all changes, especially regional ones, are for money making purposes.

eBay is making a real dog's breakfast out of the UK site with this buyers fee-private/business nonsense, all so more people will list stuff. Not enough sellers doesn't seem to be a problem in the US.
