Looking for help with this brass mug that was in the collection of an Army officer. It is inscribed 1980, CAC, and MAAL SALAMA which I think is a phonetic version of "with peace" and is sometimes used to say "goodbye". His name is also inscribed on the reverse side.
His father was also career military (Air Force), so I think the family was stationed overseas in an Arabic-speaking country (possibly Bahrain orTurkey) and the mug was a graduation gift from whatever school he was attending. He would have been age 13 in 1980 and finishing at a K-8 school. I can't figure out the reference to CAC which appears quite prominently.
Folks on this board are usually pretty clever figuring out mysteries, so I'm hoping someone will catch the references and clues.

Cairo American College is a VERY GOOD FIT - it was open in 1980, is K-12, caters to dependents of the local American embassy and other international students, and is certainly in the right part of the world.
Many thanks for the super quick response!
