A belt buckle that is missing the prong that goes into the hole on the belt?

If not, maybe it broke off.

It's unique.  That alone may make it appealing to someone...maybe a belt buckle collector!  Some people do collect them.

It weighs 5 ounces. It measures 2 inches wide by approximately 3 inches tall

I don’t see anywhere that a prong broke off or where it would go., The way it’s laid out I don’t think it would make a good belt buckle

Cool item...it may be a sash or obi buckle...depending on the way the sash is tied determines how the monkey sits upright.

To me it looks like something that would have been mounted on a door of a business.  The name of the business or proprietor would have gone into the rectangle area.  Does it have any holes for mounting with screws or anything like that?

Maybe just art or decoration? The rectangle looks like something would have anchored the item, so a board or something goes through the opening, and the monkey (?) sits on top as decoration? My mom has old display cases that had random decorations on top like that although hers were more traditional oriental looking. One of them, the art on top was painted to look like pewter, and on another one, the art on top was super heavy so definitely an alloy of some sort.

If one of those cases was destroyed, the art on top would not be intuitive as to what it went to or what it's purpose was. Sorry if this is completely unhelpful.

This makes sense as then the monkey would be sitting upright.  It wouldn't be if it were a belt buckle.
