Over the past 6 months to a year probably 1/3 of all my auctions are ruined by bidders who don’t pay. No asking for advice, just wondering why people do this.

I get these non payers all the time. I block them and move on. Why do they do this? Probably because it's easy to do and they have nothing to lose. Anyway, report them, block them and move on. Best of luck.

Some suggestions are:
Sport bidders
Bidders that bid on more than one listing, and then choose which one to pay for
Bid, and then changed mind, but a just too rude to let the seller know
Bid, but then financial issues result in no $$ available to pay
Foreign address unable to pay
Payment glitches that cause problems
Sickness/death
Internet service issues
Forgot they bid on it

It costs nothing to make an offer to a seller, and there are no real consequences if you fail to honor that offer.
So I suspect some people make many offers and wait see which ones get accepted, and then only pay for the one that turns out to be the best "deal".
Similarly, it costs nothing to place bids on many auction and only pay for the one that turns out to be the best deal.

This happens to us rarely. Maybe once out of every 100 auctions or so.
When something like this happens, and I know for sure it isn't eBay's fault, I look at my own way of doing things. And how the market is constantly changing.
Nowadays, many buyers are on their phones. Many of them only see a photo and the title - they don't know to look for more info like condition and description AND they are met by ads from competitors (thanks eBay!). Maybe after bidding they seek out more info and find they don't want yours, but don't know how to cancel a bid.
Also, buyers do like Buy it Now. They don't want to wait. So they bid, and then look for where they can get the item faster. (We still run auctions for all our items but are aware of this issue).
As far as your listings, your no return policy suggests that you won't stand behind your products. I think you're selling used electronics so this could be a serious issue.
I doubt the reply to the negative you got has any impact, but it does make you look unprofessional. Buyers are allowed to rant. Sellers should take the high road, bite their tongues, scream into a towel and then either ignore the comment or type a professional response.
Sorry for my own long reply. Felling wordy today.

So tired of this 'Karen' schtick.

I’m not a a professional seller. The rules are simple. A bid is a contract to buy. Period.
Why in the hell would I offer a warranty on a used item. eBay return policy pretty much guarantees money back to any buyer for any reason anyway.
I just contacted eBay and initiated the process if dejecting my account.

Dejecting means to “make sad”. How do you make an eBay account sad? Is this a typo? Also, your eBay ID is bound to attract sport bidders. Some just love a challenge LOL

My opinion.
A lot of people WANT something ... but when it comes to PAYING for it, that's another matter.
The same reason why so many people leave items behind at the supermarket checkout.
Doritos! Yes! $3.79? Never mind. 😉

Sport Bidders
Other Sellers that have the same item - uses dummy account to put your item out of play.

A lot can happen from the time they bid until the end of the auction.
lost their job
Lost their house or car
Hospitalized
Died or death in family
Found another one and bought it and didn't have to wait.

The nerve of some buyers.
Winning an auction ..... then dying. 😉

This is in a follow up you posted:
"Hard to believe someone can be as stupid as this. This Karen won the auction for my item"
Feedback is a place for facts, not this.
You are lucky the buyer did not report this.
It gets worse. I will not post it.
I agree completely that there are issues with buyers not following through with their obligations.
It is business, act as you respect the concept of following through with responsibility.
Sorry you were dealt a bad hand, you are not alone.
Good luck in the future.

You were asking, "Why do people do this?"
Well, why not? They could get "free" stuff from sellers.
How can a non paying bidder get free stuff from seller's ?
