Quick question. Over in my selling account I have a Buyitnow good til cancelled with multiple items available that eventually sold out. I now have more stock so I will be starting that listing again with a new count of available items.
Is there any functional difference between using Relist or Sell Similar to start the next round of this listing? All I need to do is edit the listing to push up the available count from 0. I have no other changes to make. I think the listing had some watchers although I dont know where to look to find the number of watchers when the item has sold. I would like them to get any alert from Ebay that might apply here when the listing resumes. TIA...

If you want watchers to know about it, then of course you'd use relist.
In your site preferences, there's an option called "Out of stock" which will keep a listing live (but hidden from other members) when the quantity available reaches zero, so that when you revive it by adjusting the quantity, it's still the same continuing listing with the accumulating "Sold" quantity.

Using the "relist" for the exact item is the best option. When relisting the item, any buyer that was watching the item and still has it in their watch list will see that you have relisted the item and will know it is the exact item. If you use the "list similar", the potential Buyer will be notified by eBay that you listed a similar item. I am a seasoned seller and yes, a seasoned buyer. As I buyer, I don't look at the "seller has listed a similar item" notifications because eBay considers a HUGE range of items as "similar". For example, when "watching" a postage stamp with Chicago's Wrigley Field baseball park on it that had sold, eBay notified me that the Seller listed a "similar" item that ended up being a put together model of the United Center Arena where the Chicago Blackhawk hockey team plays. REALLY?? a postage stamp of a baseball field is "similar" to a DIY model building kit of an enclosed sports arena??????

I use sell similar a lot - I'm not really concerned about watchers because if they wanted it, they already had a month to buy. I did try relist on items that had multiple watchers and it never made any difference.

If you use the OSS Out Of Stock option then you just go into your Active Listings and select that listing and hit Revise. You then revise the quantity that you wish to be displayed. i.e. 8,6.4, etc...
I believe that this will alert your Watchers that that item is available for purchase again but, I am not absolutely certain about that fact.

There are distinct differences between using Sell Similar or the Relist function. They both have their uses and no one is more important than the other. It depends on what you need at the time.
Relist is perfect if you have watchers on the listing because they will be notified that you have relisted the item. This does NOT happen if you choose Sell Similar. Another reason to choose this option would be if you have a good sales history on this listing. By choosing this option your sales history will follow the listing for a couple months. You can't see the sales history on the relisted listing, but it runs in the background. So you get that boost in the search returns for a good sales history for a little bit while you build more current sales on it. But an important thing to remember is if you have a serious number of views on this listing and not a lot of sales, relist may not be the right option to choose. So you need to consider this too.
Sell Similar create a fresh new listing. No baggage from the views on the old listing or anything else. This function starts you off fresh and new. When you choose this function remember to verify your starting quantity because it will not be reflecting any reductions from sales you may have had on the original listing.
I hope that helps.

Only if they have opted into this particular notification. Otherwise, the only way they know this is if they notice the "View relisted item" button next to the ended listing in their Watch list.

There is a site preferences option where a member can choose to be notified when an item on their watch list is relisted. But the default is no notification, as shown in the screen shot in the previous post..
