So, I've never seen this one before.
A person contacted me saying they were returning a product to me in the mail. and asked for me to send them a refund. They told me they bought the item a while ago, but it wouldn't work with thier TV because thier TV was too old. So I suggested a converter for thier older TV. and then they told me they tried that already, and that's what took them so long to get back to me about the return.
They were super detailed in the description of the problems they were having, and the product they were describing was something I was selling.
I told them as soon as the box came back, I would refund them.
They continued to contact me for several more weeks saying they keep sending the box to me but it is getting returned to them as undeliverable, and they would just like me to refund them now.
So, finally I asked them for a tracking number, and of course, they kept sending me all these numbers that obviously weren't tracking numbers. then after about a week of this, they went to the post office and mailed something so they would have a reciept, and sent me a picture of the reciept. Except the weight on the reciept was way to light for what I was selling, (like and empty envelope). and it was sent to an area code in the bigest city near where I live. It's where my ebay profile says I'm from, (they name the closest city). But, it's not where I live and it's not my zip code.
So, I go and look at thier feedbacks, and of course there's no feedback from me. then I go back into my Paypal and search every record for the past year and can't find a single sale to this person.
I went back and told them I have no records of selling to them, and instantly, the communications stopped.
But, the messed up thing is, this went on for a month and a half. They were so committed to the ie, and to stealing from me. It was incredible the amount of time and effort they spent on the scam.
I seems like it was a full time job for them. It wasted so much of my time that I'll never get back.
I just can't believe there are so many people with nothing bettter to do, than spend all of thier waking hours randomly seeking out strangers on EBAY, and then spending nearly 2 months trying to work a scam on them.
It's crazy.

Those kind of peeps probably sit all day and send mass emails hoping to get *lucky*
Scammers abound :(:(
Just verify all info before ever responding to request for refunds etc..
Then when you know the truth, no sale, nada, nothing.
Block the ID and do not respond at all.
By responding even once, they thought they had a shot:(

SO sorry this happened to you. You are a kind and helpful person and they took advantage of that, sadly. The fact that this went on so long is a testament to your integrity and character.
They probably thought they were wearing you down and that there was a good chance of success since you were communicating with them.
I'm glad you just didn't get to the point where you rewarded them with a refund, and that you checked further and found no sale. Telling them shows them it didn't work and hopefully they are just as chagrined as you are that it did not work. I guess the take away is to check to be sure there actually was a sale.
Amazing, the audacity of people can be incredible!
So glad you didn't lose any money on this farce.

It's crazy.
It's not crazy if that's the best path that person has to making some money.
That's one of the things ubiquitous internet access has enabled.
