I am currently selling a phone. I am selling it at an affordable buy it now price. I have noticed that other phones much like it with a cracked screen sell for higher value's when people have the opportunity to bid on the product even when they end up paying far more. Please feel free to check out my listing and give me suggestions, if you can. PS. The other phones that I've researched, sold under the working caption "For Parts Only" even when the phones where in perfect working order. Yet they sell for almost as much as phones with no damage to them what so ever. What am I missing??

By definition, Used: An item that has been used previously. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear ...
Is cracked screen as cosmetic wear a conundrum?

The cracked screen is not a conundrum. Why they sell under "for parts only" for more than my phone and why they garner almost the same price a regular used phone, IS. Sorry if i wasn't clear. Thanks.

Phones even older ones with defects seem to be riddled with scams and non-payers. Some perhaps even many of the completed listings you are seeing with unrealistic selling prices never get completed or end up with SNAD claims.

Seriously. Did not know that. So-much-for-research? Thanks

There are also many with perfect screens that sold for less than $139. Apple phones are the most searched items and if I were you, I would list auction style for $49 plus shipping and let the market decide what it's worth.

I've seen this on other listings. Users may congregate on an auction listing, as opposed to buying a fixed price item, and bid it up beyond the price they could have just bought the item for.
The possibility of getting it cheaper may figure in, and then once there is bidding, that just continues until the price exceeds the fixed price listing.
Perhaps a determination to win and spirit of competition kicks in and drives this. I don't know. I don't bid if a similar fixed price item is cheaper.

jimmy is right - auctions bring higher prices because a good % are bid up by scammers - especially auctions run by newer sellers or those that don't sell as often to know the changes here. Those sellers will receive a fake Paypal - the item has been paid - you can now ship your item - and they never bother to look in Paypal to see that they did indeed get paid. They ship the item and end up with no money and no phone. We'll often even see sellers here asking why a buyer messaged them with a buy it now price way above what they are asking - again a common ploy of scammers who then send the same fake Paypal letter.

It’s easier to do the fake payment scam with auctions. Many fixed price listings are now immediate payment required.
I believe there are resellers who run an entire business by stealing phones on EBay. That’s why there is so much competition.

Agreed. Sellers rush to take a sold price as a done deal with no way of knowing if it was a completed transaction.

Think you are probably right. Thanks for your help
