Am I being Paranoid???

Hi fellow Ebayers,

I wonder if there's something I'm missing- or if I'm being paranoid:

I have a potential Mexican buyer , whom I agreed to give a discount to, who wrote me this:

"Hi! Can you make it 100 USD with shipping included? They sent me a gift coupon but it only applies for item´s value. Thank you"

(Original price $84, shipping $19, so with the discount it'd be around $100)

Is there anything I need to know? What do you guys think?

Sounds as if the gift coupon can't be applied to shipping charges.  That said, I personally find nothing wrong with making the item $100/shipping included.

Happy 2018! May this upcoming year be a prosperous one!

@mirageoohmirage If you are selling fragrances you need to do a lot of research before you sell internationally. Several countries prohibit the import of such items.

As for Mexico, you cannot ship via FedEx:

http://crossborder.fedex.com/us/assets/prohibited-restricted/mexico/index.shtml

USPS only admits the items with prior approval of the Department of Public Health in Mexico:

https://pe.usps.com/text/imm/mo_012.htm

And I didn't even bother looking up UPS or DHL as I'm sure they will be similar.

Go to your seller account preferences and set up international shipping restrictions until you determine where you can legally ship such items & the proper procedures for doing so.

Thank You for your input!

OK that's great! So, the only downside for me here would be that the $100 price with "free" shipping (which I assume this entails), compared to shipping being separate, is that I would pay a higher Ebay & Paypal fee?

$79 price (w discount)= $12.64

$100 price= $16

@mirageoohmirage Please see my above post. I do not believe you can ship the perfume to Mexico.

That said, your above post is incorrect. You pay a final value fee on the item price as well as the shipping price, so you would pay the same fee either way you structured the price.

I am providing a link to the eBay fees because it seems you would benefit from reviewing it: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html

A potential downside of rolling shipping cost into the item cost is if you accept a buyers' remorse return. You would have to refund the full price including shipping since it was rolled into the item cost (aka "free" shipping).

Hi.  Not sure what "discount" you are referring to.  I looked at your listings and you don't appear to be a TRS, and even if you were don't think the math adds up to give you a $12.64 discount on a $79. item.

I didn't look at your listings earlier but as Copper pointed out there are some special instructions in mailing perfume.  You might want to review that info.

Happy 2018! May this upcoming year be a prosperous one!

I just realized you are located in Sweden, not the US. I don't know if your fee structure is different there. This is the US discussion board so you may want to find your local discussion board for more relevant advice.

Either way, I still suggest you check on the guidelines for shipping perfume to Mexico...

Thank you for your input! Much appreciated!

Oh I see- I thought you only paid for what you actually SOLD for 😉

I do have an exclusions list in my listings, but are you referring to something else perhaps? I did the research prior, but didn't list Mexico on the list since it didn't look like perfume importation was prohibited...There's a big chance I might be wrong though.

I've had buyers from many different countries and continents (none from Asia and Africa) and everything went well with the shipping. I'm based in Sweden- so this is where I ship from- and the Swedish PostNord ships everywhere. I use an insured and traceable method. But, customs overseas certainly has the finsl say...

This person has a 100% positive feedback score though.

Hmmm

Like you said, maybe the person is already planning on getting a refund, and plan for the shipping fee to be refunded as well?

Yes, exactly, but there are no local discussion boards- there is no Ebay.se 😉 I think since I'm listed on Ebay.com the fees and rules are the same (I'm assuming), but maybe I'll have to check that out.

oh, I meant a discount in the sense of me lowering the price for this buyer. No, not a TRS 😉

I was thinking 16% final fee (combined with Paypal) = $12.64

Unfortunately I couldn't find a specific answer for you as the customs part of the PostNord website was Swedish only. I would recommend doing further research on shipping alcohol-based fragrances to Mexico. As noted above we don't seem to be able to ship them from the US to Mexico.

Yes, if you're using .com then the fee link I provided above would be relevant - 10% FVF on total cost (item + shipping) goes to eBay.

I have done the research on shipping perfumes International and they can NOT be shipped by air.  They will NOT be allowed on a plane and most PO systems will not ship them by slow boat.

If they have any oil or alcohol, that is flammable, and it will not be loaded onto a plane for safety concerns.  Post POs ask if there is something liquid, flammable or Lithium batteries in the package fire is the reason why.

So if OP is in Sweden and the buyer is in Mexico, then the OP dodged a huge potential scam bullet because I would NEVER ship anything to Mexico.  All of Central and Sout America is blocked because the scam reputation there is almost as bad as Nigeria.

OP, tell them that you are sorry but you can not ship to them.

ALL buyers have 100% feedback .....

..... they can't have anything else (unless they sell on the same account)
