TL;DR
Buyer got a older iPad for 1/10 of new price. Found out they cannot run the latest version of iOS. Left bad feedback and wants full refund plus return shipping. Item was as described in listing.
-----
Sold a bunch of ipads to different people. One has been nothing but problems. She bought it on the holiday weekend started and asking why it hadn't shipped 1/2 way through the first business day. Once she got it, she asked why there wasn't a power cable. I said it was a listing for the iPad only. Then, she complained about the packaging. Next, she said it wouldn't come on. I told her that I charge and test everything right before it ships, that if it is damaged, it happened after it left my possession. I offered a refund if she returns it. She left bad feedback. I replied to it. I didn't hear anything for a few days.
Six days later, I get this message
I've tried to do it 3 times got it to set up but it want download nothing to it Al all it's no good |
It's followed by a Return Approved and funds held notices.
She asks for a return address. I give her one. Then she asks for a label. I tell her the return policy in my listing. "buyer pays return shipping, if item is opened 20% stocking fee".
She refuses.
I told her that I understand her frustration and want to work with her, but I don't think that it is fair that I should take a loss and get bad feedback because she didn't know what she was buying.
I would certainly try to make a compromise (something like, she pays shipping, I give her 100% refund) with her but she is too entitled to do it. When this goes before ebay, I'm gonna lose right?

The solution to your situation is in Message #5:
"In this situation, your options are to issue a return shipping label and refund when you get it back.
If you wait for the buyer to ask eBay to step in, eBay will refund, the buyer gets to keep the item and you get a defect for not working with an unsatisfied buyer."

I get it. The customer is always right. It's just the cost of doing business.
It sucks tho. She stated that it works, just not for her needs. It's clearly buyer's remorse.
If it was a 1960s mustang, am I expected to put that there aren't child seat harnesses or a navigation system in the listing?
If she was just willing to give a little, it would be cooler. She made a mistake, left bad feedback before talking to me, wants me to pay for everything/take a loss, and wont work with me at all. Sigh
At this point I don't even trust that she will return it in the condition she received it in.

If they opened an INAD, would ebay's system ask me to pay for shipping? Right now, it looks like they expect the buyer to.

In an INAD (as the one you posted a pic of) the seller must print, pay and send the label for return, so yes sellers pay for that.

Ebay has not presented me with any option to give them a label. If I had not come here, how would I know that I am supposed to do that? Everything presented leads me to believe that they are to return it on their own. What am I missing?

@hookdz You aren't missing anything - you do not have to issue a label for an INAD (which is why you don't see an option for doing that). eBay automatically generates and sends the buyer a 'return' class label (as well as a return invoice) for the INAD - all they have to do is print it out and slap it on the package. The label price comes out of your account (I've found it's generally cheaper to do it this way).
ETA: All you have to do is accept the INAD return - the rest is automated.

EBay probably already issued the return label from you, with your funds.

Did you approve the return on the message you got from eBay?

Try clicking the "Return Details" link to see if it says anything about shipping.
