either to a cancellation or get a other color.
Which would be ok I guess but this has happened before -twice - not too long ago where buyer canceled item putting in as reason that seller requested cancellation and re-listed the same item for a higher price (was not out of stock at all as claimed). Another one said they didn’t have the size I ordered and it wouldn’t be in stock for a while but relisted within days - again for a higher price.
Current seller has okay ratings and some similar dings. What would be an appropriate response if I still want the item I paid for that the seller listed. Just don’t want to be taken for a ride, again.

If the seller doesn't have it, he doesn't have it. That leaves you only one choice: agree to the cancellation.
BTW, try to keep buyer and seller in the proper place when you write about a transaction. Thanks.

Oops title should say seller, not buyer.
OK to cancellation but don’t want the reason to be - buyer requested cancellation - which is not accurate.

If a seller uses “buyer requested” as the reason for the cancellation and you didn't authorize it, you need to report that seller to eBay. If a seller initiates a cancellation without a buyer request, they are penalized by eBay. These sellers are trying to dodge the penalty defect. It is dishonest and should be reported.
Tell your seller that you do not authorize the cancellation. That you want the item that was advertised and you paid for. If he states he is out-of-stock, then let him use that reason to cancel the sale on his own merit, without your ok. He can still cancel the sale, but you do not have to approve it for him to do so. You can then also leave appropriate feedback, which would be blocked it you cancelled the sale.
Good luck and sorry you have run into some numpties. Most sellers are reputable, but sometimes a bad apple pops up to contend with.

#1 - Think through what you are writing before you hit send.
#2 - I would never buy from a seller who loses track of their stock and can't ship what they sell.

Thank you all for the advice.
If the seller says they will ship the item after 45 days, I am guessing that is not a good solution right? (as it would then be excluded from any Ebay protection -the sell date was this week).

Just wanted to post follow up. Item shows as shipped but mail service has not received it - it’s been 8 days.
According to a veteran ebay friend
Seller may have found a new way to beat the system. Initiated shipping but never shipped. May have canceled the postage after shipping or faked weight dimensions etc. to pay low shipping. Now the parcel can be labeled ‘lost’ apparently. I am a Luddite in this area but just sharing in case it helps anyone. I am done with seller. Good luck to him if he is a good person.

Yes, sounds like your Seller is manipulating the system. A Seller needs an acceptance scan though - sounds as though your Seller does not have one? Do not usually suggest this, but you can report your Seller. It is wrong to take someone's money with zero intention of shipping the item. Many call that fraud. It's wrong, for sure.
