Adjusted Postage by USPS

I have received about 3 recent postage upcharges through eBay and solicited by USPS (I think) indicating that a package I sent out did not have enough postage attached.  In the last instance the upcharge was over $10 additional for a padded envelope that they claimed was bigger than the dimensions I put in.  I was off by 2 inches on the length and width but USPS is claiming that the depth was over 10 inches when it was 3 inches at most.

I have requested help from USPS but I was curious if this is common.  I have been doing this for 10 years and I am very careful with my measurements on weight and size.

Anyone else experiencing an uptick ith postage upcharges?

I would agree, as a retired Postmaster of 33 years.  This Bozo has to go.  If there was one thing that sleepy Joe could do for the country, that would be kicking this guy to the curb and getting serious about fixing the USPS. Of course that will never happen because Congress uses the USPS as a cash cow. I just don't understand it. The USPS is move needed than ever.

When this has happened to us we found out by the PayPal charge for shipping.

This is where you can see these along with the reason. https://www.ebay.com/ship/lmng

I found out the hard way not to use USPS flat rate boxes for a non flat rate charge:

Underpaid adjustment: $4.90 (Charged)
Reason: Service printed on label didn't match service used
Shipping service on label: USPS - USPS Priority Mail Package
Actual shipping service: USPS - USPS Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate Box

So although the boxes are exactly the same size, they dinged me for almost $5 because the box said Flat Rate instead of Mailing Box.  This happened to us 8 times in January - February of this year for about $20.  We did get 1 credits back, one due to paying for 1 lb & actual weight 11 oz & one where I think they messed up in my favor:
Overpaid adjustment: $3.09 (Credited)
Reason:
Shipping service on label: USPS - USPS Priority Mail Package
Actual shipping service: USPS - USPS Priority Mail Package

Even if you place a label over the "flat rate" part of the box, you can still get dinged.

What really sucks with this is where you ship 3 day priority, it takes over a month & you can't get any refunds back on the charges or where they damage the box & contents, provide all sorts if images showing how it was shipped, they still deny the claim so we are out almost $60 on that one.

USPS actually takes a picture of your package as it goes through the automated system.....set up after 911 as I understand it. You can dispute the charge and they will actually send you a picture. One I had clearly showed I was using a Regional A box and they said I had used a Regional B box....Pic cleared that up and they credited me...like 3 months later of course. Come to find out the USPS had run some Regional A boxes with the wrong bar code....Doooooh!

Now....UPS and FedEx are CROOKS! be very careful and cross reference what they "Estimate" and what they "charge". I have had 3 packages of different weight and sizes come back with exactly $16 more charged at final billing than they estimated. Ebay cannot tell me why. You have to go through Ebay which is a disaster to begin with since they are the account holder. I Filed disputes but I want an explanation why this is happening. One more and it will be the last time I use ebay labels for those services.

I think if you are using non flat rate postage on a flat rate box that's kinda on you. Just order the priority mail boxes (non flat rate) that are free from the PO.

Not an eBay UPS issue. But had a package with a one digit wrong address sent cross country. The address was the last building on the street that is a care facility, the item addressed to a resident and they have a front desk. Rather then having the driver double check does this person live here, call me to clarify when it gets back to the distribution point or email there is a problem ( and trust me they email you quickly when the want to increase charges), they sent back and charged me full cost. With all this automation they could do much better.

My friend had the exact same issue last year he sent an item that weighed only 2 pounds and USPS sent the item back to his house and it sat outside all day they did not knock or ring the doorbell. It sat outside until by chance he opened the door and looked at the box. They had written on the box in black sharpe that it needed 20$ dollars more. He was confused by this and just outrage that the package sat outside and that it could have been stolen. USPS has gone down in their quality of service in my opinion.  Not to mention the delays to deliver something which count against the buyer.

You'll get an eBay message titled COST ADJUSTMENTS FOR SHIPPING LABELS.  It informs you the money has already been paid to fix the error and gives a link to challenge the charge.

You can also be refunded, it works both ways.  I get more refunds than charges these days.  Especially for First Class packages.   I tend to over estimate the weight of padding and packing materials.

I just had the same thing happen but the opposite.

Label printed : PRIORITY MAIL SMALL FLAT RATE BOX

Service used : PRIORITY MAIL PACKAGE

What the heck is a priority mail package? All I have are small, medium and a few large flat rate boxes. I've been using the small FR boxes for years now with no issues. I don't have any other PM boxes anywhere!  Lol

Flat rate boxes are good for up to 70 pounds I think so weight isn't an issue. Also it's a flat rate box so the dimension are already known.
