Adding products while a sale is on

I am having a hell of a time with this new promotions manager. A few days ago I started a sale for my whole ebay store.  As I add new products to my store they are automatically going on sale,when I do not want them included in the sale. This cost me over $200 in the last 18 hours due to the money I lost with the discount and my Ebay/Paypal fees...I was on the phone with customer service 3 times last night,and while they agree I should be able to add products without them having go on sale,they don't know how to do it.  When I added a item yesterday...it doesn't show that it is on sale,even after a few hours..it's still the regular price...then a little while later it sold at the discounted price. The only thing that did work was ending the sale...restarting the sale and go to the exclude link and add in the item numbers to the auctions I do not want included.  That only allows me to add items when I am setting up a brand new sale. I cannot figure out how to add new items to be omitted from the sale.  And now...since my sale is less than 1 day old I cannot end it.  One customer service rep said this is the first time this problem has been brought up to her. I find it hard to believe it is a rare situation.    Ebay help desperatley needed!

There are two ways to select items to put on sale: Select Items or Create Rules.
Did you use "create rules"?
This is what the description says for that (Bold portions bolded by me):

"Create rules using categoriesChanging how you select inventory removes any inventory you've already added.

10,000 items per promotion

Set rules using categories or filters.
We'll include skipped items as they qualify and new items as they're listed.
Items can be removed at any time."

Instead of creating a rule what to include, you can manually select the items you want to be in the sale. This will not add newly listed items.

I don't see any obvious way to prevent this using the Rules.
Maybe create a store category "Newly Listed" and then use that as your second store category when you list new stuff? First making sure you exclude it as a category from the sale when you set the sale up? (Hope that makes sense)

smileytown18, I think you are right, that way does not automatically add new listings. But for sellers with thousands of items, the 500 listings max is an issue for that method.
