Action Required: (my name, but might as well be sucker) please register for managed payments

Latest email from the boss man ebay. Aren't there Federal financial laws that prohibit these kind of moves by a business? I guess we are going to be forced into managed payments one way or the other. I wish the FTC would crawl up ebay's you know what. I think the action required is to find some other way to sell my stuff.

I think we can all count on eBay continuing to develop ways to get more of the sellers' profits.

I predict the next big step will be order fulfillment--you send your stuff to them, they send it out for you, much like the river does.  Of course, this works best for those with multiples of the same items that can be warehoused at a convenient eBay facility; those of us with unique items will be tossed further to the curb.

EBay is a business and has stockholders.  What they continually fail to see is that we individual sellers are businesses too and have to look out for our bottom lines.

Managed payments is a clear way for eBay to get more of the pie; it does not matter if sellers like it or want it or the program has multiple flaws. It will be forced upon us anyway just like GTC.

The alternative is to leave and take your listings with you; if you cannot do that be resigned to managed payments as it is forced upon you.  Brian has clearly said it will be forced upon us at some point.

I do not see why any bank will like getting small payments every day, or whenever, without charging their own fee to accept these payments.   Once again the seller will give and give on every sale.

Some of us may just consider all this giving is way too much to keep selling at all.  And eBay will not care one bit if some leave.

All,

I will capture all the questions raised on this thread. Thank you for all of them.

Some are already addressed in the managed payments content in the Seller Center, so please check out the info we already have. Others I’ll get the answers to and some we may not have an answer yet.

As you can imagine given the number of questions I will not get back to you today or over the weekend.

I’m at a seller event in Raleigh tomorrow, so if you are in the Raleigh area come by and meet me. Info is on the Meetup link in the drop down menu.

Again, thank you for the questions and feedback and I apologize again for any confusion I added.

Thanks for selling on eBay.

Brian

I don't know why but i'm expecting about a 20-30% increase over paypal fees once we enter managed payments.  I am trying to remain positive about managed payments but it is hard when ebay won't release any clear and concise facts regarding.

But ebay wasn't happy with just getting the fees that PP was/is getting. No. They had to add an egregious .25 per listing 'transaction fee' onto it.

@dasarock   You may not be far off, depending on what you sell.

First Managed Payments sale is now under my belt.  Until Oct 1, there is no 25 cent per listing fee.  OK that is nice,  for a couple of weeks.  Using my first sale amount, as if it was charged as an Oct 1st sale...35% increase in payment processing fee compared to PayPal.   The 35% increase would have amounted to only 42 cents, but with over 3,000 transactions per year it ends up being a nice little chunk of change.

thank you for that, I guess my guesstimate was still a bit low.  on the bright side tho!  we still get to look forward to the higher returns rates and such in addition to the additional return costs and probable administrative hassles of keeping metrics and statistics correct!  GO EBAY!

am I estatic with the coming change?  YOU BETCHA!!!  😄

Thank you for responding.

I rec'd the 'disregard the prior message' message (like others).

I want to wait until GSP is coded into MP... don't want to miss any sales.

It is esp useful in saving my buyers money w/ large, heavy pieces.

IMHO, Managed Payment fee increases, decreases or staying about the same will depend on what a seller is selling and how buyers shop their items.  For me, the average sale is 4 items, from multiple listings + $2.75 shipping.  I can see Managed Payments not being received well by a seller that sells low cost items, in multiples, from various listings, such as beads, stamps, postcards, seeds, etc.

How will refunds be handled? With PP , its an easy process, just refund the payment. (taken out of my PP account and sent to the buyer)

Would MP refunds be added on to my Ebay bill at the end of the month? Could a refund be issued to the buyer from the bank account that would be set up with MP? Or would a refund be as easy as the PP refunds are now?

Refunds are very easy in managed payments. They're deducted from your next payout. If you don't sell regularly and don't have another payout coming then eBay gives the refund to the buyer and bills you on your monthly invoice. You can't send a refund to the buyer from your bank account - eBay doesn't access your bank account for withdrawals, only for deposits.

Would sellers also have to participate with the GSP? From what I have gather through this thread, that is the "Global Shipping Program".

I do not want to sell my items to oversea buyers as there are too many different regulations in other countries, and I cant know all of them (I mostly sell hunting equipment and parts) and I have no need to get in the "GSP".

I really don't see that happening.

As far as fees go, with the type of sales you have described as having the most of, at the current rate of 2.7% + 25 cents per listing, you will most likely see a slight decrease in payment processing fees with Managed Payments.

that would be nice for a change.  the $20 fee for losing a dispute still kind of scares me too

No different than what PayPal charges, so why is it frightening?

I always managed to win every pay pal case, so no $20 charges.  have always been able to work them out on ebay first.

A-HA!

This is why everyone's (who is not in MP) sales are way down...maybe eBay's algorithms give preference to those who are in their MP system...
