A confirmation with "good til cancelled" and possibly starting a basic store

Hello, I normally list under 20 items and sell the same item multiple times because I have collected the inventory I list in large quantities from back when I knew these parts would disappear. I just about always list using "good till cancelled" and I was fairly certain that I got the initial listing free but every 30 days if I renew that listing I am charged an insertion fee each 30 day cycle, just confirming that? And if I cancel those items prior to that 30 day process and "sell similar", am I saving myself that insertion fee as long as I do not exceed 250 items a month?? It's more work, but I'm confirming that that is the case? I normally let them renew but because it's such a small amount I may be throwing a small amount of money away. 20 items at .30 cents is only 6$ so maybe I'd be crazy to end items at 29 days just to make more work for myself.

In addition to what I normally list, I recent bought a large "lot" of very small items and maybe 25% of them will sell in a month if I price them right, but the others will need that one person who needs that part to search for, find and purchase that item, it's possible some items could take 3/6/9 months or more before that happens.

In my case, Is there any benefit to opening the basic store if I were to list another 100 items or so a month for awhile? I'd still stay under 250 items a month, that won't change. But, I see a charge of 4.95$ per month for  the basic store, but I'm not sure if that allows the "Good till cancelled" items to renew constantly at 30 day intervals until sold for free, or is that not the case? That would save me from relisting 100 items every 29 days which would otherwise cost me the .30 insertion fee or another 30$ per month. It seems that would save me 25$ a month plus my time of relisting 150 items rather than my usual 15 - 20 items, and I probably could do this for a year (unless I find it beneficial) before I give up and sell all the excess stragglers as a "lot" and be done with it and just go back to my typical selling process.

I've read lots of topics and many people will reply that "all the information is there, it's all laid out", but it seems that many of us miss these little things that we aren't aware of. Such as international shipping through the GSP adding another fee/charge to the seller, fortunately I don't do much of that and it only added a small fee to my intl. sales. Whereas I've seen some people say they pay final value fees based on the total buyers fees with additional duty/tariff etc. but that does not seem the case in the couple dozen international items I shipped last year. I don't know why it seems that some sellers get stuck paying more fees because the buyers fee went from 20$ to 50$, and others don't have that issue.  As long as I don't incur that excessive shipping fee I don't worry about it as intl. shipping isn't my typical arrangement, and yes I have reviewed the page detailing my payout and it's not been happening to me. Many of us do miss some additional fees that we simply couldn't find and or didn't read about or understand completely until we read these topics.

Thanks for any your time and any suggestions.

Sellers with no Store subscription get 250 free insertions per month. Those can be used for new listings, for relists, or when your Good Til Canceled listings roll over each month. Then after you use up those 250, you would be charged an insertion fee of 35 cents for any new/relist/rollover.

The store subscription which costs $4.95 per month is the Starter store; eBay uses the term "Basic" store for the next tier up, which costs $21 per month.  With a Starter store you still get the same 250 free insertions per month. And if you choose the $4.95 annual subscription rather than the $7.95 month-to-month subscription, then there is an "early termination fee" if you cancel the subscription before the final month.

I am not exactly sure on all you said there but you should not be charged anything unless you go over the 250 free listings unless maybe you have "upgrades" on the listings? One thing i see looking at your items is they are of higher value. you may not sell a lot of items, but the $ amounts add up. The % you save in fees may actually save you money having a store subscription. If you were going to keep 250 listings of similar value, I would have a Basic store.

You don't really need a store if you only plan on selling 20 items.   If you pay for "starter store" you get 250 free listings (you get 250 anyway without having a store).

Listing fees are charged every month whether item "rolls over" or you relist with "sell similar".    Every time you "end your item" you could lose potential customer that was watching your listing.

Selling fees are charged on total sales (purchase price + shipping + sales tax) plus 30 cent handling charge.   International sales have additional fee of 1.65% of total.   If you paid to "promote item" you only pay additional fees when your item sells.

Thanks for replying. I had read that if you cancel an item before the 30 days is up and start a new auction "sell similar" that you wouldn't have to pay the .30 cent insertion fee you would have had you waited one more day?? The only negative being that you have to keep your eye on the time the auction ends and start a new auction every month. Which some people may feel that's worth their time, but, .30 cents or no .30 cents, if I list 100 items I surely don't want to do it again every 29 days...

Thanks to everyone that replied, I don't think the basic store will do me much good unless there are more savings, I'll have to look into the fees. This is a one time thing where I have a couple hundred items, it's not something I wish to keep doing...

There is no 30-cent insertion fee when a fixed price listing rolls over, if you have any of your monthly free insertions still available.  Those 250 free insertions can be used for new listings, for relists, and when a Good Until Canceled listing rolls over.
