Seriously eBay. You are going to charge store subscribers who by contract get 500 (My Subscription) free auctions per month, $1 if they do anything less than a 5 day duration. Are you kidding? I guess we see the shape the company is in financially. Gouge your store owners for every nickel, dime or dollar they can get. With sales plummeting and fees skyrocketing it appears the writing is on the wall. Wow! $1 for a 3 day auction when I am allowed 500 a month due to a duration I require that is less than 5 days. I would like to say I am shocked but I'm not.

Makes perfect sense. Said nobody ever. It's ridiculous and Im sure it doesnt cost ebay anymore if I list an item with 7 day or 3 day duration. The reserve fee at least offers an upgraded service to my auction. The duration fee summed up is I pay for using 4 less days duration. Just greed. This post isnt about how long it has been going on but more how ridiculous it is. I've been here 11 years I just finally felt like voicing my thoughts on it. But thanks for the reply. Happy selling.

Hi, yes, they charge for the 3 day auctions and have for years. I have no idea why, except for the thought that it must be lucrative. I always roll those costs into the price if I can. Best of luck to you in your auction.

It's been that way for a couple of years now, maybe longer.

The reason is (sort of) obvious, eBay charges extra for 3-day Auctions because they want to eliminate/reduce their usage. Although they don't like them (for various reasons) they also don't want to outright ban them so instead they use higher fees to discourage their use.
It's the same as Reserve fees and other fees that eBay has instituted or increased dramatically.
Behaviour modification is difficult and money is one of the few motivators that actually works.

In 2015, eBay dropped the 40-cent fee for 10-ay auction durations, and added a $1 listing upgrade fee for durations of 1 or 3 days. This fee applies to all sellers regardless of store subscription status. As noted in the other post, this was to discourage the use of those short auctions: "Charging this fee will help discourage the use of shorter durations where they are least successful."

Here's a link to the basic fees page for stores, so you won't have any other surprises:

That statement is not true for everybody. They worked fine for me years ago when I used them. Never used them again after the fee, so I guess it worked out for eBay not me, the customer. Secondly, I will be out of town and need to have my auctions end Saturday so I will still have time to ship. So I needed to list today for 3 days to accomplish that. It is my store right? Oh yeah it really isnt. Strange how the customers needs never come first here. Its a need I have at the moment but I will be pay additional "heavy" fees to accomplish my NEED. My need as an eBay customer.

It wasnt a surprise. I just finally wanted to voice my thoughts on it. Thanks for the assumption. SMDH

I recall the clamp-down on 1- and 3-day auctions came during the time eBay was having these massive free listing sales (like 25,000, 50,000) - sellers were closing their stores and dumping everything into auctions, then cycling the auctions through on 1-day or 3-day cycles. As a buyer it was awful - the same old stuff cycling through day after day as sellers churned through these free listings - it really clogged search. I think then they exempted 1- and 3-day listings from the listing specials. But soon after started charging the $1 for short listings overall - I strongly suspect the two events were related.
Edit for mistake quote.
