Can we talk a little bit about different new steps to take to improve selling?
Not a year resolution but various steps to try out…
One by one
I honestly don’t know where to begin…
It’s not easy to change. Can be uncomfortable!

Here are some suggestions based on how I sell in my niche.
I don't have a store and only have about 70 items listed. My goal for 2024 is to find time to list more items. I want to increase my listings up to the 250 free listings that Ebay allows before they start charging listing fees.
This is what I would start with if you don't have at least the 250 listings.
Then, if you haven't tried other sites, pick a few, educate yourself about them and start selling. Don't be discouraged, there is a learning curve to each different site. If you decide that you don't like a particular site after experimenting with them for a while, try another until you get several that work for you.
I currently sell on 5 other sites. I have tried many out and found that the particular combination I have going now keeps me busy. I know there is software that helps you cross post but I prefer not to post the same item on every site. That is a good option for some but not for me. I keep my inventory for each site separate so I don't have sales in 2 places at once.
Happy holidays and good luck in 2024!

I am hoping someone with the same interest (NASCAR and railroads) that I used to have will find the money and desire to buy all the items I have listed. I have records listed and I understand there is a market for them.
So if these all sell by 12/31/2024 I will be very happy.
I plan to post more more items of a different nature before the end of tis year. Hopefully I will sell all of them also.
If not I don't know what to do except donate them to a charity and let them deal with it.

It's hard to fight City Hall is the best way I can describe what I have observed, tested and proven over the last 2 years. I have watched a slow steady decline in sales since early 2022 when they fully launched PLA, the new Views counting and jacked up their Suggested rates on PLS.
To quantify the losses: 2023 is $ 10K behind last year and $ 12K behind the previous year ... that my friends is not chump change. The slow but steady increase in sales from 2015 when I started to 2019 has reversed itself.
-I used to run one 30 day PLS /campaign each quarter, prior to 2022 that boosted sales, increased traffic and my Follower count would increase a little after each Campaign. In 2022 that changed, PLS resulted in almost 1/2 the sales they used to bring and in between PLS campaigns BIN listings would fall of the face of the earth, most sales during those periods would come from Auctions or the Send offers eligible feature.
-I did a test on PLS a few months ago, ran a 17 day TEST PLS Campaign, I jacked up my ad rates at or above the inflated eBay "Suggested" rates (12%) and guess what, sales shot back up to the results I got prior to 2022 ... like magic. No, not magic, try manipulation ...
-What I believe has happened is that eBay's AI programming builds a sales profile for Sellers with the intent of having them panic in to doing "something" to try and boost sales. After learning what I did about PLS I have decided to STOP using Promoted Listings so I did not run my normal 4th quarter campaign which usually started mid-November thru mid-December to cover the holiday shopping peak. Well guess what happened? Yep I got not one but TWO of these messages about PLS starting with "We've missed you" ...
-Now, let me say it is not that things don't sell, they just no longer sell fast enough. Sell through rate has doubled and tripled which has forced me to move inventory off eBay to other venues. I have done more of that in the last year and a half then at any other time. The trend that has emerged is that if something doesn't sell in the first 2-3 weeks after listing then it just gets buried, hidden, etc.
-For my categories it is not the economy. I acquire inventory from numerous other sources but competition is extremely tough and if I can't acquire it at a price to hit my target profit margin I don't buy.
-I have to see sales recover and increase naturally and I think that will be the biggest challenge moving forward because eBay wants to see higher Fees on every transaction via some type of promotion. I think AI finally got the message that Mr Lincoln has caught on the PLS trap and is not running PLS so go bug somebody else LOL!
-If you want numbers on Views counting I have monitored that too for over a year and a have ... on average 30-35% of my items have (0) Views (in the last 30 days) at any one time and a TOTAL of my listings with 2 or fewer Views runs between 50%-60%. My sweet spot for listings and growth prior to 2022 was to have over 400 items for sale ... now I would have to have like 2 to 3 times that many listings to hope to hit the same sales numbers I previously enjoyed ... and that's a problem due to acquisition cost.
-So, eBay is no longer looking like the nice additional cash stream for retirement years that it once did. 2023 is ending with less inventory then previous years and replenishment will not happen until sometime in first quarter next year.

If I may make a suggestion considering the fact that you do utilize promoted listings, what I see when I look at your listings is missing "key words" at the end of your titles when you have room left at the end of each title.
If it were me I would add the words "Railroad" and "Railway" to each and everyone of your listings if room permitted. There are two reasons for this.
One is that if someone searched say Railroad...... whatever your listings would appear in general search, and say i this because I purchase a fair amount of Railroad memorabilia and perform those types of searches.
The second being that when you promote your listings like you do, then those promoted ads (your listings) will ooften show up in other sellers railroad memorabilia listings.
In that case you the seller are maximizing you advertising spend's exposure.
Same thing applies to your railroad books and other assorted ephemera. And on all of your Nascar items I would add the actual word "Nascar" as well as the words "auto racing"
i.e. your listing for:
JEFF GORDON - STEINS / DINNER PLATE. JEFF GORDON GROUP 2
https://www.ebay.com/itm/386147521574?hash=item59e82f9426:g:hHUAAOSwNt5jta9c
That listing is missing out on all the people who are searching Nascar or racing or auto racing or Nascar racing.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will add the information as soon as I can.

In a time of increasing competition for price all over the Web, increasing prices to compensate for high PL’s is suicide.
12-25-2023 03:55 AM
PL ebay makes more money. You, maybe not unless you can acquire the goods at a price where you can use the PL to your advantage. I use it at the lowest level in a not so saturated category. It has worked but I have to be very judicious with it’s use or I am not running a business here I am running a make money for ebay business.

The economy stuff seems to be clearing up. Maybe this year things will start picking up again.
12-25-2023 04:09 AM
A lot of this has to do with how much more saturated that category is for the merch. If the competition has increased gigantically then you have to have more listings showing up.
