Let me preface that I did not jump on the bandwagon LOL. But at some point today through the middle of September, I predict a rash of "I sold these eclipse glasses as 'No Returns'" posts.
So gird your loins, folks 🙂 Maybe we could come up with a group macro to just answer them all?
The day started out with promise clear and sunny ... we were in the 87% totality zone ... but Gulf Coast Summer did us in 😞

I'm away in Canada it was only a 60% here and I didn't even try to look
But it totally messed up the fishing. Never get skunked but no fish or bites at all
even the Loons & other animals appeared off kilter
The one eclipse follower news man went 3000 kilometers to Casper Wyoming and was on the news last night
2024 will be a full one here in Canada.
I didn't sell glasses will be interesting to see if there are any such posts
Sorry you got cheated !

That is a problem with event merchandise, thanks to the pals 6 month time limit for complaints, sellers have to resign themselves to selling merchandise that has no end of use time frame or face fake claims after the event is over.
As for the eclipse glasses, I am going to pick up as many as I can in the garage sale/flea market venues and stockpile them away on the cheap because we are in the path of totality for the next one.

I need to be careful here so I do not get another red envelope, but if that happens I will not lose sleep over it.
And yes, it was a bust in Rhode Island. Looked like it does before a rain storm.
But I did follow it on the news and it was beautiful in some of the places they highlighted, particularly Jackson Hole Wyoming. What beautiful country and where I would like to go visit when my husband retires.

There was a spot on the news tonight about the eclipse glasses where it was stated that they have a 3 year expiration date. If that is the case they won't make it until 2024 or whenever the next one is. (turns out that is NOT true)
Looked quickly, and apparently that is incorrect according to NASA for the real ISO grade ones, and as long as not scratched, torn, or damaged can be used indefinitely. https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety
Still, be cautious. Assuming you can verify that the ones you obtain are the real deal and were made by an approved vendor (and not knockoffs with ISO markings), it could still be tough to evaluate the true condition - all you've got is visual inspection to look for pinholes and scratches.

Not sure if they expire or not, but I would not take the chance to use these old glasses where storage could affect their stability over the next 7 years.
And I am sure in the next few years, before the next eclipse, an improved product will probably be on the market replacing them.

For the most part, the *real* eclipse glasses don't really expire. The date is more of a guideline and CYA statement for the manufacturers--table salt and water have expiration dates. The adhesives, paper, and plastic of the lenses can degrade over time, so the manufacturers date them.
The hardware store up the street from me had to mark their welding lenses and helmets as *all sales final* when they had an influx of buyers last week.
