2 bidder with same bid, went through

HI, I sold an item which hasnt been paid for yet after three days. I took a look at the bidders. How can 2 different people bid the exact same amount and the 2nd one to bid that amount overode the first. Both 70.00 bids but the 2nd person overtook the first.  The first bidder didnt cancel their bid. Its impossible to bid same price and override the first.

winning bidder had a "proxy" bid in place. the losing bid for the same amount was made last. it drove up the winners bid to their hidden amount

Ties go to the 1 that bids 1st.

the winning bidder bid 4 + hours before the losing bidder.

Yup, if not looking at automatic bids it can seem strange 😂(we've seen many a thread where it was not understood)

I edited my thread while you were posting to show the automatic bidding $$.

Ties are possible because each new bid must be at least one bid increment above the current high bid showing.   So the amount of the new bid could be the same as the earlier bidder's full hiddden proxy bid.  This coincidence is so common, eBay even puts an explanation at the bottom of every bid history.
