16 oz First Class Postage.

I have seen several postings about the calculation of postage for 16oz.   The problems I have had is in writing up the initial listing.  If I select "1 lb or less" and put in 16oz -  when you calculate the shipping it reads it as POINT 1 lb (.1) which causes problems.  The way I have found around it is to use CUSTOM WEIGHT and put in 1 lb.  It appears to calcuate correctly and so far I have not been told of any buyers having to pay additional postage or had items rejected at the PO.

Wondering, has anyone else found this problem between "1 lb or less" and "Custom Weight"

Thanks, Debbie

A First Class package can be 15.99oz, if it's 16oz (1 lb) it can't go as First Class.

I usually use 15 oz when making the listing and change to 16 when making postage.

You shouldn't be experiencing any problems when entering 16 oz.  for a FCP.  I've never had a problem with it.  I think there were issues early on when the 15.99 oz. first went into effect.

Great! 45.8% down over the same time last year with 2x+ items listed. Are you impressed? I'm certainly not!

I put in 16 one time and it automatically reverted to 15.99. I personally do not take chances.

that is exactly what it does for me as well if set on FC mail.

i enter 16oz...

when the label is bought it switches to 15.99oz.

not understanding what issue the OP is having?

Last time I used eBay Shipping Labels and tried to get to 16oz, I got a 15.90 label.  Maybe you can get 15.99 at post office, or maybe I goofed inputting idk.

The correct choice for up to 1 lb. is CUSTOM. Then you specify the number of ounces in whole numbers.

Actually, your best bet is to use the fixed-rate option and type in the dollar amount you wish to charge your customers. Except as a personal reference, it's not necessary to indicate a weight or dimensions when zoned rates are not involved.

well the idea is to be under 16oz but more than 15oz.

15.01oz is more expensive (up to 15.99).

have no idea what u did.

but had another 16oz item last week.

i entered 16oz set on FC.

the label said 15.99oz.

this is also the only time (i believe) you will see a "decimal" # on  FC label.

if you entered 16oz set on FC, the label should have read 15.99.

you either misread OR it was an ebay glitch.

That's the way it always reads on the label for me too, but then I use a FR cost, not calculated.

I think the issue here is trying to use 16 ounce calcuated shipping in the initial listing.  16 oz is over the limit so it may not be accepted. When buying shipping there is a 16 ounce in the drop down menu that reverts to 15.99.

I will try to enter 16 ounce in a listing and see what happens. As posted above the cost for FC shipping is a flat rate so OP should use a flat rate amount rather the calculated is probably best. It can even be rounded up a little for shipping supplies.

Ummmm...

You don't need to enter a weight.  Just ship for free.

Yes, if you're listing a Shipping charge, "1 lb. or less" will set your available Shipping options on the form to be those for a 1-pound package. You need to select "Custom Weight" instead, plugging in zero pounds and some number of ounces, up to 16.

When printing your Shipping label, just select First Class Package, and you should then get a pulldown menu of selections from 1 to 16 ounces. If you select 16 ounces, your label will print as 15.99 ounces.

That was my take on the OP's post as well: she is setting up her listing as PM (and weight) when it's light enough to go FC.  If she chooses FC as the method when she sets up her listing she shouldn't have any problems, (though I set up a flat rate in my listings.)

Happy 2018! May this upcoming year be a prosperous one!
