13% FVF over 10% FVF, is it common?

I just wanted to ask a question which would sound like this: Is it normal that eBay takes 13% off my sold listings as a Final Value Fee (FVF)?

I've been observing my sales for a while now and sold items ranging from $2.00 to $219.99 and all the fees were ~12-13%,  didn't matter how big the selling sum was. It should've been 10% the whole time... but wasn't.

Anyway, I considered the 12-13% being normal until recently I saw this: http://prntscr.com/hu8jd6. In this screenshot it is clearly said that it should charge me 10% instead of 12-13%. Does anyone know why such thing is happening with my listings? Just in case, I'm selling my items in "Video Games" category, though I don't think it has anything to do with those high percentages. Also a quick note, the 13% is only FVF, I didn't take PayPal fees in count, I made sure I did all my calculations correctly. If anyone knows the answer to this I would HIGHLY appreciate your help. My seller level is "Above Average" and I don't have any negative/neutral feedbacks, again, I don't know if it has anything to do with FVF but just noting in case it does. None of my listings have any enhancements or upgrades, so can't be because of that.

eBay fee calculator also assists my claim that the fees should be 10% http://prntscr.com/hu8nqt ($4.00 fee for 39.99$ listing), but the REALITY is different.... http://prntscr.com/hu8ou3 (charged me $4.84 for my 39.99$ listing).

I know that a few percents are nothing big, but in the long run it may cause some wounds (I took some time to calculate and I realised that I would've saved $90 if the FVF were 10% from the beginning of when I started selling). Once again, I appreciate any help.

It's around 13% if you include the Paypal Fee.

I didn't count the paypal fees, plus eBay charged me 4.84 for my 39.99 listing:

@rocket_league_market

You are based in Lithuania, selling on .com in U.S. Dollars ...

I suspect that the difference is either VAT/GST or Currency Conversion charges.

The fine print on the calculator says:

This fee calculator is intended for informational use only and doesn't include all potential applicable fees (such as supplemental service, store subscriptions, and optional upgrade fees). Listing upgrade fees may be higher than the amounts reflected in this fee calculator based on the duration of your listing. Depending on the tax legislation of your country of residency, local Value Added Tax (VAT), Goods and Services Tax (GST) or similar consumption tax might apply in addition to your eBay fees.By using this fee calculator, you acknowledge that eBay is making no representations or guarantees regarding actual fee and sales amounts and that the results are estimates only. eBay Motors and Real Estate are excluded.

perhaps international selling fees/conversions may result in different FVF

edit: see previous poster's nicely detailed answer.  I type too slow:(

OP,

Your ebay invoice detail will show you every single fee charged to your account.

- the date of the fee

- the amount of the fee

- the description of the fee

- the item the fee applied to

Unless you look at your account detail and show us an example of a specific fee  where you were charged 13% of the selling price of the item, I am inclined to think that perhaps you are misunderstanding the fees.

For instance, are you aware that eBay charges a 10% fee on the shipping costs you collect, in addition to the 10% fee on the selling price?

Hi Lucky 🙂

OP is using "Free Shipping" .... because they aren't actually shipping anything ...

I wasn't going to go into it, but ...

@rocket_league_market

Your items are listed incorrectly, in the wrong category.

I suggest that you read the Digitally Delivered Goods Policy

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/downloadable.html

You can list most digitally delivered goods on eBay as long as you follow these guidelines:

  • You need to list your item only in the Everything Else > Information Products category using only the Classified Ad format.

  • Your listing clearly states that you legally own the content (sometimes called intellectual property) or are authorized to sell it by the owner, the owner's authorized agent, or the law.

 I also suggest that you read the STEAM UA:

http://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/

As one of the other posters mentioned, it is likely VAT that they are adding on. I don't know if they do that for all European countries but they do it for at least some of them. We also have to pay a tax on fvf in Canada.  Try this....go to: account - seller account - At the bottom of the account summary box click on fees or click on view all account activity.  Near the bottom of that page on my screen it does say that fees include Canadian GST etc.   But I am looking on my home site of ebay.ca. I don't know if the US site will give you the same information if you are from Europe and are being charged VAT.

yes it indeed does say that it includes VAT (http://prntscr.com/hub51e), thank you for your answer. Now I'm curious, if I change my living place to USA, will it still take 13%? I mean that's not a problem for me since I sell digital goods, so it doesn't really matter where I live.

Are you going to be living in the USA? If not, then don't lie about where you live.

Also, all those Tags at the bottom of a listing I looked at are a big no-no. They are search manipulation.

And you better re-read the digital delivery policy for selling on eBay (if you even read it before you started).

You have so many things wrong with your listings that I don't know where to start!

@rocket_league_market

You are located in Lithuania, which is part of the EU, and you are not registered as a business seller.

Because of this, eBay is required to charge VAT on their services, and remit the VAT to the EU or your government according to the law. The standard VAT rate in Lithuania is 21%, so the eBay final value fees will appear to be 12.1% instead of 10%.  The VAT in the EU is always included in the bottom-line price, it is never shown as a separate line item.

eBay UK explains this well: VAT and your eBay fees

I agree with you, but I AM in fact registered as a business seller (http://prntscr.com/huc8ip).
What gives out that I'm not registered as a business seller? I'm actually curious now.

I got the part about the fees though.

If you were registered as a Business Seller on an eBay website in the EU, it would say so in the Seller Info Box on www.eBay.co.uk. But it doesn't say so:

Maybe you also need to provide your VAT registration number to be registered as a business.
