12.9% Sales fee Taken out of Shipping Fees Too - is this Legal?

New listing fee for "up until sold" charges sellers 12.9% on total amount of sale including shipping? This is not right; shipping should be a pass-through charge.   I just lost $30 on shipping due to this type of fees.  How do you feel about that? How do we as seller's upcharge for that? How do we not lose money on shipping? I'm not here to lose money on items I ship out. Im not here to make money on shipping but Im not here to lose money on shipping.

Which means you have to charge the buyer an additional 10% to cover eBay's charge. In other words you have to lie to the buyer about shipping charges. I added that overage in my listing so the buyer could not say I padded the shipping cost.

This fee has been in effect since about 2008 and is described when a seller looks at how fees are calculated.

So not what one could call a "new" fee exactly.

I'm curious, does anybody think by now EBAY could just not let the listing go live until an accurate shipping $ amount is entered? Thus eliminating the shipping fee of 13%. Similar to missing condition or required info. I'm guessing EBAY collecting this fee is millions annually, why throw that away? I'm also guessing sellers might need the $ more than EBAY. Yes 13% fee is very reasonable for a sale, but feeling(& expressing) being cheated by A LOT of sellers has to mean something.

I agree. First, the 12.9 fee percentage is way over reasonable for the service eBay provides. And the entire system and procedure is convoluted in my opinion. Secondly, I don't think it is fair to glom the 12.9 fee from the seller. Take that fee from the buyer. Not fair at all.
