How does 'Report An Item' work?

I had the most frustrating week ever and one of the annoyances was a buyer writing to tell me she thought one of my items was fake (statement, not question) and wanted me to take closeup photos that were already in the listing--good ones too, not blurry oranything like that,  I think she just didnt' bother looking at all the photos.  The weird thing was, this is not a very expensive or popular name brand item, so I had my doubts about it being worth faking.  I did some googling and sure enough, couldn't find any discussions other than ONE, and it was a couple years ago, here in the Ebay forum.  Someone thought an item of this same (marginally popular) name brand looked fake, plus a few other items the seller had listed.  They were asking if there was a way to report the seller (which they had not even bought an item from), just wanting to police Ebay from photos I guess.  Anyway, told her she could hit 'Report Item' in the listing, by the item number.  She just said thanks and that was the end of the thread.
I somehow never even noticed that feature, 'Report Item.'  I've got no reason to try it unless I see someone offering puppy meat or something, but anyone here know how it works if someone DOES click it?  I would assume they have to answer the nature of the report (maybe illegal items, deceptively categorized items, heck I dont' know....and I suppose items that the viewer thinks look inauthentic).  Anyway what happens THEN?  Does the listing have to be reviewed before taking down, or does that happen automatically and only restored if greenlighted by review?  --that's how it worked with a Facebook comment someone reported on me recently.  I know Ebay isn't Facebook, in fact it would be a lot WORSE obviously.  You mess with my money, you mess with my emotions!
