I recently rebranded and need to change my store's URL to match my new company name.
Upon chatting with eBay, I have been told that there is literally no way to do this without creating a new eBay account.
This seems like a really crazy policy to me, as it is effectively telling every seller on eBay that they can never fully rebrand their eBay store.
Is there no workaround for this at all? No process for applying for an exception or anything?

You would not need to create a new account.
Although not the solution we would like, the workaround is to close your store and then open a new store with the new name. There are cost considerations based on the term of your store subscription.
Your listings will remain active if you close your store and must be manually assigned to the various categories that you create in your new store.

Can the seller open the new store with the same name is the one that was closed?
Is there a waiting period?

@shipscript kind of...
When a seller closes a store, store settings are saved for 30 days. The store name will not be saved beyond the 30 days. So the seller could reopen the store during that time and continue using that name. If they closed the store though, and waited more than 30 day to open a new one, then there's a chance someone else will take the name.

Thanks, this is getting tricky.
In light of this seller's predicament, where they have already changed the store name, but the URL did not follow:
If the store is closed and reopened sooner than 30 days, will the mismatched URL remain?
Or must the seller wait 30 days to open a new store of the same name, in order to get a matching URL.

I think I understand what you're saying now @shipscript. Let me see what I can find out.

Hello! The store name stays tied to a closed store for 30-days. So if the OP wants to create a new store to get the matching URL, then they would need to close the store and wait for 30-days for the name to be free to use on a brand new store. I hope that makes sense and helps!

Thank you for that information.
Sorry to nibble away at this...
Would this scenario work (to avoid going without a store)?
Or would BETA still be held for 30 days because it was used previously?
If the name BETA is still held for 30 days, then:
The help page does not indicate any frequency limits for changing the store name.

- Seller opens store as ALPHA and later changes name to BETA, but URL does not match.
- Change the name back to ALPHA (or any other name) and close the store.
- Immediately open a new store as BETA to get a matching URL.
Or would BETA still be held for 30 days because it was used previously?
If the name BETA is still held for 30 days, then:
- The seller could switch back to ALPHA for those 30 days,
- Close the store after 30 days and immediately open a new store with BETA and matching URL.

Hi @shipscript! No worries about nibbling. 😊 It sounds like your second suggestions would be safest to ensure the OP gets the name/URL match without going without a store for a month.

This seems silly to have to do this. Can't eBay just do a technical update to allow the URL to be updated when the store name is changed? I have this issue as well and I can see from the community I am not alone.

Hi, sorry for the necro.
This may be a silly question, but when doing the second suggestion would I need to change my eBay username as well if it's the same as my store name or just my store name?

Store name and username can be different. So changing one will not change the other.

I have a typo in my store url. rather than what is says now: bullionandloans it is supposed to be bullionandloan. I think my employee typed it wrong or it auto corrected. how do I remove just the "s" on the end? is it possible?

You can not edit a store URL. The store URL is based on the store name selected when opening the store. Later changes to the store name will not affect the URL. You would need to end the store and open a new one to get a new URL. You must wait 30 days to reuse the name of a store that has been closed.
Here are two ways to close and open a store:
1) End your store now (or near the end of your subscription). Wait 30 days and open a new store with the correct name and URL.
2) Change your store name to "Bullion and Loans" to match the URL (this will be your throw-away name). Wait 30 days for the old store name to become available again. Then close your store and open a new store as "Bullion And Loan".
Closing a store does not affect your active listings. However, when you open a new store and your items are automatically imported, you may need to move those items to your store categories within your store management.
