Keywords for Promoted Listings

Hey guys,

Promoted listings are not Google Ads…but what if I they could work the same way?!

We have advertising budgets that are not spent because of the way eBay made promoted listings.

Buying KEYWORDS that are not in your listing title or subtitle would greatly boost sales!

Think about it:

Let’s say you sell used iPhones. Your title is limited to a few letters: « iPhone X bla-bla-bla  64GB Grey bla-bla-bla » and subtitles are also too short and expensive. Your promoted listing will only show to people looking for iPhones X.

Now if you could buy keywords like « Android » « Samsung » « iPhone 8s » «  iPhone charger » anything else that could potentially change a buyers decision…baaam game changer!

Am I crazy here?!

Probably... or at least swimming against the tide, or one of those other analogies.

eBay has banned keyword spamming for 20 years because it makes buyers angry when a search surfaces items that do not match the search criteria.

While it's a great marketing idea for sellers, it does violate eBay's own policy:

Well - answer me this - why in the world would I BUY a keyword when I can just insert it myself without paying anyone.

Because of the limitation of words you can use in a title or subtitle…

…now if eBay also reads the text in the description and use it for search, then it’s another story. But I doubt it?

I guess big brother made it clear that manipulating unrelated keywords is not allowed. Thanks for the link to the policy!
