I used File Exchange to listed some products, all of them were list successfully.
And then I manually revised some listings and switch the default photo’s order to put the better photo as the main photo via eBay’s seller hub. (My eBay--seller hub--listings--active--edit)
And then the problem occurs, all listings which I revised, all default photos of these listings disappeared.
For the listings I did not revise, all default photos are all still good.
For the listings which created via eBay website interface, nothing wrong with them when I edit the default photo’s order.
So, this problem only happens to the listings created via File exchange.
I contacted online chat customer service agent just now, and they said it was because for the items which listed via file exchange, does not allow to revise through eBay. Otherwise, problems will happen.
But I don’t understand. No matter list via file exchange or eBay, they are all just writing the information into your database, just in different ways, no actual different.
And also, I did not see any place tells me that the items list via file exchange does not allow to revise through eBay.
Could anyone please tell me how to recover my listings default photos and how to avoid this problem happens next time?

We have not heard of this before. After years of using FileExchange and making mods thru FileExchange and the online interface, this has not occured. Let's see if we can get some more attention on this.
@Anonymous
Can you review this experience by the OP? If this is indeed the new policy, please advise.

Here are some examples:
183892858250
183892853145
These listings created via File exchange, after I revised, all default photos of these listings disappeared.

173969484429
173969484503
These listings created via File exchange, I did not revise them, so all default photos are still there.

These listings created via eBay website interface, nothing wrong with them when I edit the default photo’s order.

I think the problem you are describing is related to using variations. Your variation photos remain after revision, but the default photos that are not associated with a variation disappear after website revision.
When you revise your photos using the website, are you revising only the default photos and not touching the variation photos?
If so, there may be an underlying problem that eBay is conflicted by "self-hosted", "web-hosted", and "EPS-hosted" photos. I have had problems when uploading photos through File Exchange and then trying to rearrange the photos or add another photo using the webpage tool. Sometimes there is a message that photo sources can not be mixed or sometimes my photos disappear, and sometimes I can add a new photo without a problem.
I have not tried this on a variation listing like yours, so I don't have solid advice, but can confirm that something like this does happen and it is probably linked to a hosting flag that is set during upload.

Hi @silkroadia , our Advanced Apps team ran a test listing utilizing all 12 of your own photos, and then rearranged the default photos on eBay directly. They were not able to reproduce the same effects that you experienced. All 12 photos remained in the default photos only in the different order that they chose.
Whatever picture you enter in position number 1 on the file on the parent row will be the first gallery (or default picture) on the listing. When uploading a file with 12 pics, pictures 11 and 12 are moved to position 2 and 3 for Gallery/Shared pictures (I'm not sure why this is, but it does appear to be the case). Multiple variation pictures should remain in their order even if using 12 for 1 single variation.
To add your default photos back to the listings, submit a revision file with the column headers Action, ItemID, and PicURL and add all 12 photo URLS with a # symbol sign at the end of each URL. The # symbol will tell eBay picture servers that the image is new to the listing and should add it at the gallery location.
For more details or assistance with this I recommend contacting our Advanced Apps team by email at turbodata@ebay.com. They support File Exchange and can provide in depth support.

Hello,
Daniel here. I'm sorry that you're having issues with your photos after revising your items on the site.
I've been looking into this and it seems that there may be an emerging issue regarding what you're experiencing. Because of this, I'm going to submit a report to our developers to report it. I've seen this happen in the past on some categories.
I'm not certain as to when I will hear anything back from our developers, but will let you know when I do hear something.
In the meantime, it may be best to do any revisions with your images with File Exchange.
I do apologise for the inconvenience.
Kind regards,
Daniel M.
