Hi All. New to selling since Ebay started their seller policies. I just sold a pair of lamps that were delivered 2 days ago. Buyer contacted me today saying that one is broken but is offering me one hundred dollars for just one. Is that even possible? The insurance was 250 for the pair plus another 80 for shipping. I don't know what to do here as I know (I think lol) that I have to purchase a return label. I asked buyer for photos which I haven't received. Everything I am finding with USPS says I have to file claim. I feel like I will get the screws. Ebay is now holding my funds grrrr. Anyone have similar experience and can guide me here. Feel like I won't get any protection.

Ya got a choice to make.
Accept the return and provide a shipping label then refund when they are returned.
If you want to file an insurance claim, ask for a few pics, then refund the buyer and have them hang on to the lamps and package so they can be inspected if needed.
If you want to issue a partial and the buyer agrees to it, you can do that.

@vincentandkathleen Hello- sorry but this won't be what you expect to hear. This platform offers buyers a money back guarantee. One of the lamps arrived broken so your buyer will end up being refunded because they purchased and expected a set of two unbroken lamps. Your least expensive option is to accept that offer of a partial refund and at least keep $100.
If you have the buyer send the lamps back it will cost you return shipping, buyer will be fully refunded.
If you ignore the case, eBay will close it in favor of your buyer for full amount.
In order for you to open a claim with USPS, they will require the buyer to take the items in the box back to their main USPS office for inspection. Chances of your buyer cooperating through all of that are minimal. That's also not a guarantee that USPS would pay out as they will most likely blame your packing for the damages.
The fact that your buyer still wants to keep one of the lamps and offered to accept $100 would be your best bet for your wallet. Best of luck to you....

After your buyer starts a return request @vincentandkathleen you will have the option to "offer a partial refund" and no return is needed.
Calculate the partial refund so that it leaves you $100 plus partial shipping of the total the buyer paid. Then when your buyer accepts your partial refund offer, eBay will action that partial refund and close the case.
