new login page doesn't work with password manager

I use a password manager in my antivirus program or all of my logins. Ebay recently changed the login page and my password manager doesn't seem to recognize it as such and doesn't fill it out for me and doesn't give the option to save the credentials after I fill it out myself. I use the password manager instead of the browser stay logged in feature because it's supposed to be more secure. Is this a bug that will be fixed? Or am I stuck keying in my credentials every time  I need to log in?

new login page doesn't work with password manager

It sounds like I wasn't crazy and the new page doesn't compute with my password manager.

I choose to not use my browser PW manager and always clear all history/cookies when the browser closes. I have read that using a PW manager that is outside of the browser is safer than saving credentials in the browser itself. Maybe it's bunk, but it makes sense to me. Having an extra barrier to get through can't hurt.

@member5150

Just press return/enter. You will get the 'Oops' message, on a new login page. On the new page you password manager should work correctly. The same occurs with FireFox' password manager.

eBay is continually updating this site. Some advice given may have changed. Please reply to this thread, to let us know if this advice works for you. That doesn't work for me. I hit enter and get the oops message but the new page looks the same and the password manager doesn't work. I'm gonna have to change my UN if I'm gonna be typing it in every time.

You can not stay logged in because Ebay made a change and thought it unnecessary to test before sending it live.  It would have been simple to log in and then close the page to see if it was holding the password. It would have been simple to see if the stay logged in feature was working but no. As with all of the changes they have been making it would cost to much for the outsourced idiot implementing the changes to test to see if they did their work correctly so now users can not stay logged. You would think keeping buyers online and able to make purchases would be a priority. Yet again ebay has slipped up but wants buyers and sellers to trust them with their bank info over PAYPAL what a joke. The company they are switching to cant even run ETSY's site properly. They are having the same issues as on Ebay and despite Ebay insisting it will save sellers money their current rate is twice that of Paypal. Sellers will not be able to get their money instantly like on Paypal so shipping labels will not be able to be purchased till the money is cleared by them. However the first hurdle is that most of the time buyers can not complete a purchase. You would think that close to a whole summer of constant problems someone at Ebay would realize this is a bad idea and stop doubling down on stupid choice.

But then again ebay cant do something simple like teach its spell checking program to recognize their own name lmao.

new login page doesn't work with password manager

I have zero issues with the new login page using the Firefox built in password manager in FF 3.6.24. FF31, and FF52 with the old Secure Login addon and Master Password Timeout addon (to lock it down)

Haven't looked in detail at the specifics of the new code, but that type of issue is usually related to autocomplete attributes being forced to off by the server (for security* they claim), and I believe there are some newer technologies in play that do similar.

*turning autocomplete off is counterproductive in my opinion. Forcing uppercase+lowercase+numbers+punctuation, no repeating numbers, no username in password, and the other (stupid) restrictions developers force on usernames and passwords causes users to use password managers and reuse passwords, and similarly, turning off autocomplete causes users to pick the shortest, easiest to remember passwords and usernames they can get away with. Unintended consequences they never seem to grasp.

Unfortunately, I'd have to say it's up to your antivirus program maker to fix this problem. Alternatively, you could use your browser's native capability (if it works) instead, and live with the tradeoff of convenience vs claimed loss of security to be able to use eBay without hassle or without dumbing down your usernames and/or password (which is a worse idea than using the browser password manager.)

What exactly is the security issue here that your antivirus maker claims they avoid using their methods, and what state actors are hacking you 24/7 to steals access to your Youtube kitteh videos? grin

What browser are you using?

Check your site preferences it looks like when you sign out it is changing the option to keep you signed in. Even though I had that option enabled in the past it was turned off. After I turned it on using edge I was able to stay logged in even after closing my browser. However after I signed out it reverted that setting back to off. If you are using a work or friends computer to access your account when not at home and sign off on their  computer. Then when you get back home you will need to sign in then go to the preferences and turn back on the stay signed in option.
