I have a auction buyer that has not payed in 5 days and cannot cancel the order for non-payment. When I try to cancel the order through order details, I receive the message: The buyer has more time to shop with you and pay. You can choose "Buyer hasn’t paid" as a cancellation reason if the payment hasn't been processed by.... [a date 8 days after the sale].
The report buyer button doesn't work either. It goes to a page that says: We ran into a problem... Try again later.
In my preferences, I have 4 days set to automatically cancel unpaid orders. Under that setting, there is an exclamation point that states: Some buyers will still have 7 days to shop with your and pay. We'll automatically cancel unpaid items the next day if the payment hasn't been processed by then.
How does a buyer have this magical ability to override my preferences?
This is not a power buyer. They have a sub 100 feedback and doesn't appear like they have purchased anything in the last 6 months.

If you selected the automatic payment option, you provided an option for the buyer to continue buying additional items from you for up to a week whether you know it or not.
IMO selecting automatic payments slows my cash flow. I have made sure that option is turned off on my listings.

If you have combined shipping set up along with the autopay feature for your auctions your winners will get 7 days to pay if they decided to bid on more items. This was announced December 2024 https://community.ebay.com/t5/Announcements/Exciting-News-for-Auction-Sellers-Who-Offer-Combined-Shi...

The ability for buyers to have more time to pay is because the seller offers combined shipping, along with utilizing autopay feature.
This was announced on December 17th. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Announcements/Exciting-News-for-Auction-Sellers-Who-Offer-Combined-Shi...

@ebooksdiva @tobaccocardyahoo Thank you both for the enlightenment.
To be sure, is the "Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid" selection in buyer rules, the same as the automatic payment option that was referenced?

Yes it is.

Thank you very much. My call with the help desk was of no assistance yesterday. They couldn't figure out the issue and wanted to make sure those boxes were checked.
It seems basic that you would want a buyer to provide a payment method, right? I've unselected those buttons for future auctions, and will see what happens in the next three days with my buyer.
Much appreciation for all of the help.
