UPC Code Issues

Is anyone else having this issue with UPC code errors.  (I am able to list now so I guess they finally fixed the spinning wheel when hitting the list button).

But now, on many items, it won't accept the UPC code for some items anymore!?!  I have items that are actively listed and have sold with the same codes relisted and sold again many times.  But now all of a sudden when listing, I get this error:

"It looks like there's a problem with this listing.

  • MPN has an invalid value of "5000167217155". Enter a valid value and try again."

But these are the UPC codes that are on the boxes, same ones I have been using all along???

UPC Code Issues

OK after taking another swing at it, what I realized is that the error was on the MPN not the UPC.  So I called eBay.  Of course most cosmetics the UPC is the MPN.  But I was told now that they have changed it so they don't want UPC codes put in the MPN space (even though in some cases they are one in the same).  The rep mentioned using a "does not apply" in the MPN space, but it's not there in the drop down as far as I could see, so he just suggested to leave it blank.  So for now, I gues that is it.  *shrugs*

Use the "Does Not Apply" option. It works for me.

Using does not apply may work for now, but as eBay insists on use of it's catalog, that may not work for long. The error may be happening because the UPC for the Brand/MPN of your product does not match that in the eBay catalog.

Thank you dollybeauty.  But the strange thing is the codes have been working fine for over a year.  This just started happening in the last few days.  Maybe it has something to do with the listing problems fromt the past few days?  Or did eBay do something their catalog in the last few days?   But now that I recall, there was a similar problem with this a while back where it was just not taking any codes, but it was only happened for a day or two, then it was all ok again.  I guess I should probably call eBay just to find out if this is a temporary problem like before or a new one they need to fix.

And yeah, I did read about a future update where eBay is eventually going to demand everyone use UPC codes.  That's why I started addding them a while back.  Not to mention it's kind of cool when I google items sometimes for research, I will actually see my listing pop up in the right side section or int the main search.  Nice little advertising perk.  ðŸ˜„

The simple reason the accurate UPC code doesn't match is because some Ebay programmer typed in the wrong numbers. Happens all the time.

They won't be able to require UPC codes for not new items. I often just crop the NEW from the title and just put it in the description. One has to do whatever is necessary to sell an item. Sad now because a seller can no longer put "like new" in their title either. It's called let's make the seller jump through the hoop some more and a little higher jump too

Programmers do not do data entry. Programmers are aware of syntax. Programmers are numbers based. What programmers type must be accurate. This is not the work of programmers.

It's not a robot that originally entered the codes into the Ebay system. May not be called a programmer but it is a live human being and all of us make mistakes. When I grew up these were called data entries and sure enough not always correct then either.

Having the same problem.  I added the upc's to my listings so I could list as NEW.  They went through with no issue.  When I relist they are rejected so I end up deleting and listing as USED.  I'm sure it cuts down on sales since a lot of people click on new items only...

Strange thing is, I am getting the message on random items in a multi-variation listing also, but only on re-lists.  I thought it was a TL issue, but apparently not.

@kimberleys_attic and @joyce5114 I suspect you may be putting the same value in both the UPC and MPN fields. That's not allowed anymore.

I am having the same issue where my listings will not relist because "MPN has an invalid value ..." messages on them all. I only use this field to differentiate between my listings. My items do not have "UPC" codes as I sell new fabric. Our industry uses collection names and a MPN from the fabric company. Anyone know of a way to overrride this error? I do not see "does not apply" as an option when I go to relist.
