In the Advanced Search, there should be a way to indicate that the Category should be 'exact' or "only" or "exclusively" (whatever word you decide), and perhaps an "including subcategories" when the "exclusively" constraint is chosen.
When this request was made earlier, I was advised that if there were no matching results during testing (i.e. manually running the search prior to saving it) items outside of the specified category would be presented on the page. A simple "No matches in the specified category" message would be more helpful (without alternative/out of category results being presented). If you want to return anything at all, limit the result to some alternatives in the category.
