I went to issue a refund to a buyer on an item I decided I could not ship after the auction closed and the buyer paid. When I tried to issued the refund the first time the eBay refund page came back and said the refund could not go through but did not say exactly why and it seemed it might be a credit card issue. I checked and then figured out that the issue was that I had already downloaded the UPS shipping bill from eBay so eBay had marked the item as shipped and I needed to change that to not shipped in order to complete the refund transaction which was then able to go through.
Problem was when I checked my bank account eBay had taken the refund twice, apparently the first time I tried when I received the message that they could not issue the refund they actually took the funds then when I switched the item to not shipped and went to refund it again eBay took the funds a second time.
Will eBay figure this out and refund me or what should I do? No Paypal involved here. The entire transaction happened within the eBay platform.
It was a $400 plus dollar amount so I really need that money back any help you can offer would be great. I have been all over the seller portal and I find nothing that has helped and when I actually saw the item in a link that the seller portal pointed me to and I clicked on it the item would come up and say that I have issued a refund already and that nothing else can be done.
Please help. Thx

Well... you should have cancelled the order citing 'Out of stock', which would have automatically refunded.
Sit tight for posters who might be able to address your next move. I got nothing...

As mtgraves said, the correct action in this situation would have been to cancel using the "out of stock" reason which triggers an automatic refund. We're past that now on this transaction.
Are you sure the funds were pulled from your bank twice, or is at least one of those transactions in "pending" status? It's not uncommon to see a pending transaction which will disappear when the funds are eventually debited.

Thx for the reply guys.
I actually did use the cancel link and choose out of stock. Then it bought to a page to pick a credit card to use because my primary card for such a transaction was expired. I picked a different bank card and issued the refund as noted in my original post. This happened yesterday and all the transactions are still pending at my bank as its a weekend.

Then you're probably fine and will see everything look 'normal' once the transaction moves from pending to cleared. If for some reason things don't balance out you can go to the Payments tab in seller hub and use the help link (question mark icon on the right) to connect directly with eBay payments customer service.

^^^ Good for you. I'm with @wastingtime101... with the weekend (and the bank card change?), I think the 'Pending' will go its own way and you'll be sitting pretty in short order. Don't waste any more of your day worrying this one. 🙌
