Recently Viewed Items Not Mine

Anonymous
Not applicable

Like the title says. Recently viewed items that appear on my Purchase History page are not mine. Third time this has happened in the last week. First it was a long list of high end collector plates. Then Holden automotive brochures. Today it's baseball cards. Never viewd any of these Listings. Anyone else have this going on? -96

Recently Viewed Items Not Mine

I'm having the same problem, which started a few days ago. I am seeing it on My eBay Summary page, where it should show my recently viewed items on the left side of the page. Now it appears to be showing random items that change when I refresh the page. HOWEVER, if I go to my Recently Viewed page, everything there is mine, as it should be. I'm sure it is an eBay glitch.

This appears to be ebay just trying to be clever or perhaps inept.

Calling customer support resulted in the same typical "security" issues spazzed about by others in the thread.

But rest assured, none of it is true.

While ebay won't admit to it, they are manipulating the so-called "Recently Viewed Items" in your Purchase History page.

Now it could very well be likely that some third, fourth or tenth party "contractor/partner" of theirs has breached their own security system, but rest assured that it is affecting literally everyone with an ebay account.

I just checked all of my ebay accounts, those of my parents, siblings, good friends, selling partners and a host of others who have ebay accounts, totaling over 100 accounts, and ALL of them have the same issue.

A cursory search on the internet revealed the problem has existed since at least 2016, documented here on the forums.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Member-To-Member-Support/recently-viewed-items-are-not-mine/qaq-p/2600...

Deep web searches reveal this problem literally mentioned 1000s of times in the last 5 years. In fact, there are over 500 pages of search results addressing this very issue.

It's an ebay thing, so document it by calling their customer support line and ask them what it is, so that if anything bad happens down the road, you have them on the hook and liable for this issue should any harm arise.

Yes.  I am having the same problem.  The items scrolling through are wide and varied from cars, electronics, household and garage type tools, hobbies, clothes, to toys, and anime cards.  A majority of the items are international listings with a few US sellers.

I have contacted customer service but they didn't solve the problem.  They only verified if any of the purchases were mine or not.  I have changed my email address, password, cleared the Recently View Items list, and changed my security questions but these steps haven't solved it.  I have have been shopping internationally since all this too which makes me wonder.  eBay CS asked if I had clicked on a phishing email but I don't remember doing that because I rarely go into that email account.  I plan on closing it this weekend.

Still, I would like to have this stopped.  Apparently, it has been a long-term problem seeing that I am responding to the same problem many years later.

Encountered this today myself. Weird. I only noticed as I was seeking out the seller of a recent purchase to buy from them again. When I went to My Ebay > Recently Viewed, it correctly showed 'no recently viewed items". I guess Ebay is doing this to encourage the sell of items people viewed when not logged in? I wish there was an opt-out though, as I don't want to see the items of others regardless of whatever point of commonality I may have ever had with them.

I had the issue happen once a year or two back, thought maybe I accidentally clicked on the items because they were from franchises I like.

However, when I checked my account today I noticed under 'Recently Viewed' there was a Honda engine and candle holders under the section, and I don't own a Honda and have no interest in candle holders, so I know I didn't click on those items.  I went under purchase history to make sure the items weren't purchased, I then checked my account info and none of that was touched.

One little coincidence though, I was working with Ebay CS on an open case involving a refund a few hours before the items appeared.  I'm wondering if when they went to investigate the item I refused delivery on if they accidentally clicked on the items.  I'm not sure how much access they have to my account when they're doing an investigation on a refund.

However, to be on the safe side, I changed my password and security questions, and I'm going to keep an eye on things.  I considered changing my username as well but I have an order that hasn't been sent out yet so changing my username now may screw things up, not sure.

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one with the question, except in my case eBay likes to email me ‘are you still interested in this item you looked at’, even though I have never looked at the items in question. I find it a little freaky tbh.

So I have it too. I talked to customer service. I only see wrong stuff when I first login. After I have navigated around, then the right stuff show up. I'm thinking about taking screen shots and messaging CS.

I have also recently had this problem. Been on ebay for years and never seen anything like this happen before, but in the past week, I'm having my recently viewed include things like chainsaw parts, gun magazines, telescope lens... It really weirds me out. I have changed my password/security but it still keeps happening. I don't share this computer/account with anyone else.

Found this thread because I noticed the same issue today! I was looking at my watch list and saw a bunch of random items in the recently viewed section. The items were like baseball cards, a subscription to an online game, other random stuff that I have no interest in. I immediately changed my password, so hopefully, it stops doing it.

My incorrect "recently viewed" items ALSO included a Honda car part!

As well as some kind of 6V quick charger, Nike Air Jordans, a greenhouse roof window opener, and a Canon camera kit. And I just noticed this issue tonight for the first time in my life (casual eBay user for many years), immediately after speaking to eBay support about a return case!

Two weird coincidences with your post! I wonder if those items also had cases opened and were in the support person's history or something.
