Fix those missing July 2020 photos

The past few days, sellers who use external photo hosting have had their photos fail to appear in search because the photos failed to transload from the third party servers to eBay servers.  eBay is aware of the issue and is working on it.

The affected listings do not display eBay-hosted photos within the listing. Instead, they display third-party-hosted photos, so there is no eBay supersize or zoom. You can repair those listings by manually uploading new photos, and that will also fix the missing search thumbnails. If you don't care about lack of zoom, you may be able to repair only the thumbnails, one at a time, using this link, although some report this link doesn't work (or maybe it doesn't yet  work because of the underlying server issue):

When eBay does repair the underlying server issue, perhaps eBay will be able to finish transloading the photos that appear in listings and that fail to zoom.  If you are waiting for eBay to fix the currently missing photos, and if they are eventually unable to do so, you can use this tool to find the affected listings and bulk repair them through eBay's File Exchange (FE).

Important!  There is no need to jump on this solution until eBay fixes the server problem. However, if and when you find you need the tool, it will be there for you.

Here is how it works.

  1. Enter your seller name
  2. Select country site.
  3. Click the "Get Items" button.
  4. When a row of item buttons appear, select the middle "Fast Scan" button.

  5. The tool will start building a grid of items, listing the photo URLs for each item. When the scan completes, a list of items with external photos will appear, and that list alone may be useful to members using third party listing services.

If you need to repair on your own, scroll down to the report section.

  1. Choose the "FE EXT listings" option, which will select all items that still contain externally hosted images.
  2. A slot will open to enter some random letters or numbers that will be appended to the image names (this is important so that when you resubmit these external images, eBay's File Exchange (FE) will treat them as a new request). Use different random letters or numbers each time the same photo is resubmitted to File Exchange.

  3. Build the report, which can be copied and pasted into an open spreadsheet. The spreadsheet can then be saved in CSV format for upload to eBay's File Exchange, which will revise the listings.
  4.  Note that the scan tool does not separate out the variation photos, and you would need to group those yourself in the spreadsheet report.

If you need help with this, I'll monitor this thread to give a hand. 😊 Or just give a holler if you are on a different thread.
