I agree. This SMS-based security code is nonsense, and I know that the security professionals at ebay must already know that. I want the industry standard TOTP-based authentication from one of the several apps that provide it. I do NOT want to install the ebay app on my phone just to avoid getting SMS secrets.

It's very frustrating to have to settle for the 2 methods ebay provides.

Google Authentication is the way to go. It's transportable and so can be moved/duplicated to another phone so it's still accessible if your main phone goes belly-up.

Another year down and still no secure 2FA. Ebay needs to get their act together and take security seriously and not force people onto the data-harvesting 1st party app

I want to throw my vote in for ability to use external authenticator apps.  I dont want to use the ebay app, and SMS is broken and doesnt work when you are out of cell service.

Hello.

You can add me to support this feature: I can't install Ebay app on my phone since it's a corporate one, and I can't use SMS as 2FA since mobile networks are not reliable around me.

Hi eBay. Please can you add the ability to use an authenticator app?

My dad is disabled, registered blind and because of that, cannot see very well and relies on a screen reader. Asking him to enter a number from an SMS isn't going to happen. By the time the email arrives and he can use the computer to read it, it has timed out.

For all other sites, we manage this well via a password manager using the industry standard authentication. He simply can't use eBay any more since your forced change to your own 2FA methods. It's a disaster for accessibility as well as being a terrible implementation. I personally use Authy for everything else EXCEPT eBay.
