I try to click on "Chat with our automated assistant" and it does not work.

What browser are you using?
Depending on what happens when you try the chat option, it might be worth trying another browser to see if that makes any difference.
I used the Help & Contact link, selected "Contact us" and picked the first category at random ("Buying"), and when I used the chat link, a chat window popped up in Firefox for me with some options:

I tried the link, it does not take me to chat or anything near that at all! it redirects to the ebay.com/help/home page I have spent the last 40 minutes trying to navigate to get some kind of help.
I would actually love to be able to waite for them to call me, but I have been given not page to ask for a call back, and as said, when I click with my computer "chat with our automated assistant" noting happens no assistant, no pop up. That's why I asked for a URL to the assistant, not to the page that doesn't work.
I would love it, dryophelia, if you could correct a $40 discrepancy in my eBay rewards bucks. In fact I encourage you to. Until then, you could call eBay for me? and when they call you back could you ask them if they would ask someone to call me back? Much appreciated.

So your question would be worded something like, ‘what is the best way to contact eBay about a discrepancy in my eBay bucks balance?’
We can’t solve all the problems. Certainly we can’t help with account issues as you are experiencing.
As an aside, are you aware of the recent changes to the eBay bucks program?

Yes, I have firefox.
I wish there was a direct URL rather than a hotlink.
I get the feeling that I am not going to be able to use eBay help, and that sort of ruins any plans that I sell on eBay in the future.
Like I said, if there was a phone number or an email address where I could schedule a "call back" I would do it. But I am not about to get a new browser, download an app or program or sign into twitter or facebook (both more evil than eBay), imho.

Chat requires Javascript being enabled in your browser -- there is not a direct link.
If the chat window is not opening up for you, chances are that you have Javascript blocked in your browser, or some setting is preventing it from working correctly. Rather than try all possible permutations of settings to see which combination works for you, it might be easier to simply use a recent version of another browser -- the default settings should work for most common browsers.
I doubt the chat bot will be able to answer most questions about your eBay Bucks balance, unless your question is answered by the fact that eBay Bucks daily percentage is currently zero aside from Bonus offers.
You will likely have to use the "Have us call you" option. That option may not appear if the lines are exceptionally busy or if you call late in the day. Try early in the morning for best results.
