Sold a travel notebook and one bidder had the same bid twice, then the winning bidder won with the same bid amount! The winning bid should have been higher in order to have won the auction. Was there a problem Wednesday? If so I should really repost the item in all fairness.

private, so hard to see who bid when.
High bidder can bid 2-3-4-5-6 times to pad their bid. Amount will not change if no one bids more.
If two people bid the same amount, the first bid has priority.

If two bidders are tied, the earlier bid takes precedence. If that person bids again, the price will not increase. If you repost it, you will receive a defect on your account, and you may receive negative feedback.

Wow that's wild. I've never seen two different bidders with the same bid. If you bid again the increment should always go up! That's why it's an auction.
Here's what it looked like, sorry I forgot it was private. As you see "Texas" had the $32 bid. So why didn't the bid increment go up for "Brenda"??? Doesn't make sense.

It makes perfect sense. Brenda bid $32 first; then texas ties her. Brenda then decided to raise her bid, but since she was already leading, eBay didn’t raise the price.
It used to be that eBay would “fill in the increment” in cases like this, by raising the price to $33. But they lost a lawsuit about 10 years ago when a court ruled that they were improperly raising the bid of the person who was already leading.

I think I get it. Just doesn't seem fair to the seller (maybe there needs to be another lawsuit lol). For an auction you never have two bidders with the same bid and one of them wins. It has to be the higher amount wins and the lowest bid looses. Right? I mean that's an auction! Who if many sellers really know about this seemingly snafu? But you did and I really thank you!
Ebay’s auction design, which allows people to place a max bid, creates the possibility of a tie. The design is very effective for a 24/7 environment.
