What to do with sellers that list items that don't exist?

Last week I bought a new OEM Toyota air filter from a seller on eBay.  I had looked up the part number AND bought that part number.  Unfortunately that is not the part number that I received.  The seller told me that the part number that I purchased was replaced by the part number that I received.  The seller sells the part number that I received for $3 less.  I asked the seller for a partial refund since I got the cheaper filter.  The seller refused and wants me to open a return case and ship the filter back and then have me buy the cheaper filter....the one that is already in my posession.  Obviously I am dealing with a seller with a serious mental handicap.  Since I didn't get the part that I paid for and it is quite possible that that part doesn't exist anymore, can I just give this seller negative feedback?  I hate to give negative feedback but sellers shouldn't be selling items that don't exist.

Does the part you received fit your car?  If so, then the issue is $3.  If your time filing a claim and returning the item is worth more than that, you might try to let it go and move on.

Do NOT leave any feedback. That signals the end of the transaction. Open a "not as described" case.

I had the same thing happen when I bought a turbo hose for a Volvo last year.  The one in the photo was clearly a "Gates" brand which we typically use.  What we received was a rubbery "Uro" brand that does not last.

We questioned the seller who paid the return on the wrong part and issued a refund.  We actually found the correct Gates hose for less than we paid for the original.  LOL

Your case is dirt simple.  Open a return that says that the item does not match the description.  You will get a return label to return.

Move on and buy another filter.

Part numbers are rountinely supceeded by updated part numbers. Two different supply chains may have two different numbers.

If you haven't already done so, just go up to the top of the page and click Help and Contact. then click on the pic of the purchase you are having trouble with. Follow the steps and when prompted, explain the issue in as much factual detail as you can. Stress how unstisfied you are with the Sellers communication and how much of a burden it will be on YOU to ship back HIS mistake.

Takes about 5 minutes of your time. Most of the time ebay does not require the Buyer to return the item.  Wait about a week or whatever the required time is and boom...you are refunded.  Don't leave any feedback until the process is over.

If you paid with Paypal, and for some very, very rare reason ebay doesn't come through for you, file a case with Paypal. Same deal, takes five minutes. They freeze his account until the matter is resolved. On something so cheap I would be surprised if either ebay or Paypal will require you to return the item.

Too many Sellers on ebay doing millions transactions perfectly to put up with the ones who don't...best of luck to you - 96

I try to avoid buying things on ebay like the Easter bunny, unicorns, and the Lock ness  monster. If you choose to buy such things I think you will find great disappointment in what you actually receive.
