Here is a link to Bar Mills Models on-line newspaper and information station. Art has 4 new on-line videos that you might find interesting. The first two are about Bar Mills Models itself. The next two are instructive videos. One on different types of glues and their use and the other on the new Bar Mills weathering powders. There are also pictures of some of the kits available. Enjoy. http://barmillsmodels.com/dailymoose_05A_05.html

Pete, Are you and the wife gonna take a trip just to get off the Rock? Seems like you haven't been anywheres since forming this group.

No passport necessary to visit Canada. I went to Buff in Aug of last year to my 45th high school reunion, so I have been off the rock. Remember Peggy whom you help me find? She came also. And no ice breakers needed at this time of year. Tell the bitter harf top come on up! She can kiss the cod and down the screech and become a Newfy. B-)

So our day trip turned out longer than expected but still an ok drive. Went to Estevan, Saskatchewan, lower right corner of province close to US border. Reaason of going there was the thought that it was 4 hrs away (wrong!) and a chance to see coal trains. (wrong again) anyhoo it wasn't a complete disappointment. Actually got to see something better. The actual mining. The hiway psses thru part of the coal mine. It is strip mining process so we got to see several dragline buckets. plus an outdoor musuem of few items. Just gotta upload some pics.

Everybody busy with summer stuff? Been really quiet here lately.. ____________________________________________________ Yes, I guess so! I know we have had our share of stuff going on. Ed developed an "unknown" allergic reaction and for the past month & 1/2 we have been running to different doctors while he is living on prednisone which he isn't adjusting to as well as the dr's would like. (you should see his poor body) In between I've been busy with the wine, taking care of things around here and my son's leaving as well as a few family things. Hopefully once the heat is over, things will get back to some kind of 'normal.' The garden is overgrown w/ weeds, the yard is a mess and we only tried camping once and that was a disaster! If I blink hard maybe something good will happen!!!!!!!! Other than that, all is ok! How about the rest of you? -- Edited by crazyd37 at 07/30/2008 7:54 AM PDT

You guys are having trouble with summer time temps and not being able to do much training, we are in the middle of one of the coldest winters in over ten years, minus 2- minus 12 every night and then really warm 11 during the day on a really warm day that is, the heaters are working overtime everywhere, still managing to do a bit of modeling (not much though)I am sitting in front of the confuser a fair bit hoping someone will say something once in a while. ]:)

We have been busy here and there. Some work on the little pool at our Midlothian house patching the concrete block around the new plumbing we installed. But I have discovered how handy a high resolution digital camera (9 Mpixels for only a couple hundred dollars!) is for calculating dimensions of the parts of a bridge that are a little hard to reach. Using the photos and windows paint works nicely. Windows paint shows the pixel location of the cursor. Just take a few pixel locations, and match a couple to actual measurements, throw it into a spreadsheet with some fiddling and pop out some estimates. I have been going over the photos of the big WM bridge at the narrows that we took the other day and developing a list of possible styrene shapes to use. It has been interesting combing through the photos and zooming in just to study the details of the bridge and pondering why the engineer did this or that, and then saying "Oh well that seems obvious! (I think)... Charles

Charles, Try Google Earth, it will give you the measurements that you need. My brother uses it to generate estimates for his business. CJ]:)

CJ, Thanks! I will need to check it out when I can borrow a high-speed Internet connection for a bit, sounds interesting. Though some of the detail I am looking at is a little picky and dealing with inches. Not that the finished model would necessarily be that good, but knowing a bit more about the real thing helps me pick more meaningful compromises for the model (at least in my own mind anyhow...) Thanks! Charles

Just got back last night form our family vacation. It was only 6 days and a lot of driving but saw a lot of beautiful areas. Drove down tru N.D and satyed in Sioux Falls,SD for the night. Day 2 drove to Rapid City/Black hills. On the way we stopped in at the Corn Palace in Mitchel and drove thru the Badlands (awsome) stopped in Wall and looked aorund had supper. Next day we saw Crazy Horse and Rushmore and took a 2 hr ride on the Black Hils Central trian. Didn't get to do a cave tour due to timings/bookings. Day3 kept heading west and saw Devils Tower in WY. Stopped in Gillette for couple hours trainspotted and had lunch. I finally got to see my big BNSF coal trains somewhat up close. The interstae even passed by a coal plant and the mine was on the side of hiway and you could see into the pit as you drove by. Got to Billings, MT that night. more or less just a place to have supper and rest our heads for the night. Next day we drove to Biismarck,ND stopping along the way to see a dinasaur museum and the N.D badlands (roosevelt park) Saw a lot of BNSF trains along the way. Same situation with bismark for the evening. Last day of trip we headed north to Minot and visited a scandinavian park and headed east to Grand Forks, ND. Saw some more trains. Had supper in GF and then headed home thru a wicked torential downpour. Got home around 9 pm.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Remember the scene where Richard Dryfuss is constructing the Devil's Tower out of mashed potatoes at the dinner table then makes a bigger plaster model and finally travels to the tower to meet the aliens? Don't tell me you never saw that movie. So.......mashed potatoes. B-)
