the stake in the gorund sounds familiar. Don't know how many years ago I heard somehting on that and forgot until you mentioned it.
So I'm guessing the early bird didn't get the worm if they were all on your driveway?
Remember...if you don't want worms, then don't eat raw cookie dough. hehehe

Any worm that invades my body will be instantly pickled.
Finished two models for George in HO and now am working on an O scale kit for myself. It is another Bar Mills kit for Bull's Salvage. Kinds neat in that it has framing features that can be left exposed or covered. I'm going to leave some of it open.
I tried a new way to weather this kit. Usually I paint the walls then use the usual alcohol/ink wash to darken them and also weathering powders to dirty them up. This time I stained all the wall first with the A/I solution. Once dry, I dry-brushed the walls with different colors of paint. The effect is the same as before with a lot less paint and better control of the color coverage. These walls really look old and weather worn. Perfect for a salvage yard,

Put a new battery in the vette and it fired right up. Pretty good considering it hasn't been started in a year and a half. Now to get a much needed shower and get insurance. 🙂

So I decided to sell off some extra HO locos I have had for a while. They probably will go on the cheap side because I started the bidding low to attract buyers. I can see that they have had a little activity as of this morning, but no bids. I guess with today's sniping programs there is no need for a real auction. All the activity will take place in the final few moments. Funny that my buy it now price is 50% of the original sales price too. However, they probably will not go for much.
Selling on eBay is not what it used to be.

Last fall when I listed some N freightcars, I was content overall with the prices I got for my stuff. Canada Post got more expensive with shipping costs.
Who knows wwhat it could be like in a years time. I still get good deals form asia but they don't deal with railroad stuff. At least not N American prototypes.
There's not too much left for me to buy. another loco or 2, couple different 3 packs of ethanold cars. Modern reefer from BLMA.
That's about it.
Had to laugh when I was at a LHS here, they had the MTL Canada Series for sale for $400. I'm thinking good luck in getting 400 for it in the city here with all the cheap people. It took a lot for me to finally get $400 for mine on Ebay at that.

News Flash!!!!!!
The shipper (you) now has to fill out a customs form on line for Canada Post before you go into the post office to mail the package. You have to print off the form after you fill it out and take it with the package to the P.O. You can do it on your smart phone too. Pretty soon we will not need the post office at all because we do all the work for them. Oh, if you do not have the form filled out as of December, the P.O. will charge you $3.00 to do it for you. Can you imagine the snafu of implementing this at Christmas time? Not everyone has a computer you know, like the old Nan and Pop who always send packages to the grandkids for the holidays. And you think the lines are long and slow now. Another great idea from your government.

I grabbed a pamphlet the other day and it mentioned you could fill customs form out at P.O like you normally could. didn't mention a fee. Then they sting ya with a fuel surcharge fee too. May as well drive your car and deliver the package yourself.
06-13-2014 04:39 AM
Yep. Fee takes effecg in December. Up until then you just have to wait for the clerk to type it all in. Takes about 7 minutes.
You guys all saw that Model Power has closed its doors I'm sure. How many more companies will go bye bye as the interest in modeling dies a painful slow agonizing death. Young people are just not interested in any form of modeling. There is no instant gratification like with the electronic gadgets.
I'm just too damn old I guess.

between that and the obvious of being idiots. They have no attention span whatsoever. They get bored of the same boy/girlfiriend after a couple weeks so they split. One young stylist asked my wife how we could stay together after 10 years. This young generationw will be very lonely in their old age.
I could see smaller companies merged into Walthers and Atlas,etc.. we dont know anyone in europe to know what their youth market is like. Red Caboose is now under Intermountain.
They need a mandatory class in schol where they have to take up a hobby during that class. Be it a period of woodcarving, building bird gouses, modelling, cooking, chess playing.
You see the ads on TV, guys in late 20s playing X-box. Nothing wrong playing a video game per se. couple years ago I was playing Call of Duty a little bit. But an hour here or there is one thing, these gus will spend hours in one day! If they ever managed to have a family, the baby will be crawling around in 3 day old diaper and the mother will be busy texting and taking pictures of herself, and the guy will be in the 'mancave' with his friends playing video games. I hate that term 'mancave.' stupid sub-urbanite term. I probably technically have one but I refuse to cal it that. It is called the basement, recroom or home theatre room....where other family members are allowed to be there too.
I'm only 44 and I see the IQ difference of this 30 and under generation. I have a 19 y/o so I know all too well.

Big government and centralized power groupies realize that smart self-sufficient independent people don't need or want the big government. So naturally over the years as the power groupies have gained more control and influence in the government, guess what government schools are teaching? Dependency, mindlessness, no self control, no independent determination, irresponsibility, and victim-hood. Maybe it's just my imagination...
Oi, what a mess!

Here we go again. Sold two items. Paid for one and no response from the other. If people bid why don't they pay? Let's see what happens with my nexr auction.
06-17-2014 07:28 PM
Pete,
Did you forget to mention you actually wanted to be paid? ...
...
Charles
PS, how about a note on the listing: If you aren't going to pay, please don't bid.
06-18-2014 04:18 AM
I just sent off a second invoice with a note in it. I'll cancel the sale and do a second chance offer at the end of two weeks. The other bidder is only 50 cents less. If it doesn't sell in the end I can still use it around the Christmas tree.

Took a buddy (whom I haven't seen in quite some time) out railfanning. Recently divorced so I would say he enjoyed the morning out. We actually did well in seeing quite decent action (for a change) CN mainline so nothing unusual but still a good day out.
A bad day's railfanning is better than a good day at work.

Dave, you flooded out? Looks bad out there on the prairies.
