I think I'm sorry I asked. I remember long ago that oil was just one grade. I Buffalo we always used 10W in the winter and 30W in the summer. I have no idea wha the dealer puts in my car today. I use 5w-30 in the lawn mower and sno-blower. That is when I remember to change out the old oil.

it's one thing to have conventional oil and synthetic oil. What I think is stupid is different types of oil like Quaker State and their selection, oil for 4X4s, high mileage, extreme use,etc...... At the oil bottling plant, it probably comes out of one pipe into all these types. I honestly can't seee what they would add to the oil to make it better suited for a 4x4. You may drive a bit different for speeds and what not while in 4wd, but your engine is still an engine.
My rule of thumb is change the oil religiously when it is supposed to be. That is the best protection.

Looks like spring around here. A lot of the snow has melted and temps are in the plus range. I know we will pay for this later. Rain for today again. I can see a lot of grass already.

Pete,
I think you need a machine that can mow grass and snow..... It must be possible!!?? And something that can make quick work of the plow truck wake. A couple years ago when we were up here in some snow and digging out the driveway, one of the neighbors driving by with a backhoe scooped our driveway lickety split.
All the best,
Charles

That would be called a ride-on tractor mower. mower deck under the chassis not shown.
Sorry. had to be that guy to state the obvious.

Leave it to Sears to come up with that. Years ago my Dad had a Simplicity 14HP tractor with all kinds of attachments. Mower under deck, three gang trailing reel mowers with leaf catcher behind and plow. No snow blower though. We had a 150 ft long driveway that I used to plow and an acre of land to mow. Those chores were fun when I was a teen and had that tractor. My best friend at the time, Tommy, had a Bolens tractor and we used to have road races with them, not parent approved. My Simplicity had a higher top gear and I used to nip Tommy at the line every time. Those were the days before computers and games and we made our own outside in the fresh air healthy fun. In our neighborhood of two streets we each had a whistle call that our Mom's would use to get us back home. Those police whistles were loud! My call was two shorts and a long. Everybody knew each others call too. Such was growing up in "HappyDays". Since our area only had two dead end streets it was natural for the kids on each street to be rivals. Perfect. We played every game imaginable against each other and had bitter fights over football calls and baseball outs and basketball fouls. Then came the crab apple wars and snow ball fights. And we all remained good friends in spite of it all.

Now kids "cyber bully" etc. instead of taking up a real hobby aside from spending ages 4-16 on video games everday. useless generation they are. Haven't seen a 20 y/o yet that I didn't want to kick in the ass. Useless too towards contribution to society.
Selfish, believe in self entitlement, etc etc etc.
Funny part is these younger generations are so unhealthy, my generation will outlive them. Thankfully so too, otherwise this would be the bunch that would forget to change my depends when I'm 90 and half coo-coo in the head. They'd be too busy texting one one another....while in the same room with one another.

Dave, Pete,
That's a cool tractor, and close, but of course I was imagining a more unusual machine that you just pop on and do what you need. It is easier to imagine something than make it into a real thing that's for sure. But that tractor would do in a pinch. I wonder how well a chainsaw would work to cut the plow truck ice wall into blocks? Then those could be used to build an ice building, or whatever....
Our government schools are doing their best to teach everyone (but white males) they are victims and the government will fix things for them. But maybe worse, they are teaching all you need to do is imagine you are a powerful and successful person, you don't actually have to accomplish anything.
All the best,
Charles

It had the nerve to snow again just when the warmer weather and rain had almost melted all the snow banks. The grass was green and now it is white again. Have to go out soon and clean up the plow crud in the driveway as usual. I can't believe they actually bothered to plow the streets. There was only 2 to 4 cm. 2" at the most.

It is snowing nicely here today and about 29 deg (-2 C), we may get 4 to 8" We may need to do some sholving, but there are four of our sons here so that could help. Our new used car is an AWD Dodge Journey, and we got to drive it in snow a few weeks ago, it performed quite well, I was surprised, and glad we have it. Pete, now that I think of it, what you need is a nice heavy duty amphibious vehicle for those times the island is blocked off. You might get some interesting income from an emergency service.
All the best,
Charles

Actually Charles I have a pilot whale in training. Damn thing eats a lot though and it prefers dried cod for a performance reward. We have also been having trouble keeping the pond free of ice with these cold temps and the whale is getting antsy with a restricted open water area. Maybe I'll fire it and hire a Minke whale instead.

Nor'easter come and gone. Still some lingering snow flakes but the winds have died down. Yesterday I had to tie the dog down when she went outside to do her business. Also loaded up my pockets with rocks so I could get the mail........:)

Pete,
Was someone cackling "... and your little dog too!" during all this?
He he he,
Charles

Thought I saw some flying monkeys too......

Looks like an N scale kit I ordered is finally here. The tracking number says it is at the PO. I'll get it today. Mail has been slow because of the high winds we have had. The boats just do not cross the strait in high seas.
