I am trying to find some Scalecoat paint colors, we don't have them here but I have used them and am very impressed, if any one could procure them and then post them to me I would be most grateful, for now I am chasing Santa Fe blue, Santa Fe yellow and BN cascade green, any help will be great. Barry.....in need of decent paint. ]:)

Here's a link: http://www.weavermodels.com/page8.html You can also get the paint at Walthers. Weaver states that they cannot ship Scalecoat outside the US, so you will have to find someone willing to buy it for you and ship it.....dare I say it.......against the rules! I would do it for you, but they won't ship to me either. Anyway, this is the manufacturer's site and you can see the colors available. Rotsa ruck! B-) PS: There are two types of Scalecoat paint. Which one are you looking for I or II? And I did find a few Canadian dealers that stock Scalecoat from the Weaver web site. I'll call them later today and see if they will ship directly to you. I know they will ship to me, but why have a middle man if they will direct ship. Also color availability is questionable here. Maybe you can call Weaver or email them to see if you can buy direct from them. :-) -- Edited by ginzokid at 05/14/2008 4:48 AM PDT

Yep I know that they are not supposed to ship overseas, I have had them sent three times and as I said I really am impressed with the color and finish, is there anyone else who wouldn't mind sending three bottles, because it is for plastic they need to be Scalecoat II series. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. ]:)

Scalecoat II being water based is not a haz-mat material. Therefore, the only thing stopping your getting what you want is the high cost of postage to Oz. I found a hobby shop willing to ship direct to you, but the cost is high, $30 approximately for the package, and the biggest problem is the short supply of Scalecoat paints. The shop would have to order what you want as they don't have it in stock right now, no one up here does by the way, and the wait is sometimes months for delivery from Scalecoat. So, I can't even find the paint you want here. You can order direct by email from George's Trains in Toronto at: Gary@Georgestrains.com They will have to order your paint and then ship to you. Sorry about the difficulty, but they just don't make the paint on a continual basis. Maybe you would be better having someone in the US look for you. B-)

Perhaps he can get you what you are looking for. I will have to get onto someone and see what they will do for me, if I can do what you say I will, thanks again. ]:)

Barry, You are running up against the same problem that everyone has with Scalecoat. They just don't make enough of it all the time. It's a two man operation and they only mix paint like once a year when they are not busy doing other things. We stopped carrying it in the hobby shop in Phoenix because they hardly ever filled their orders from us, and when they did, it took a very long time. Maybe you will have to switch to Polly Scale or some other acrylic paint. B-)

Barry, Weavers have sent me a complete order form showing what they have in stock. Like Pete I am also in Canada but Weavers said they would send it to my alternate address in the USA and I would get the articles the first week in June when I meet some of my friends at a motorcycle meet which would mean that they could be shipped out of here the second week of June. They have a sliding schedule for shipping in the states worked out on the dollar concept, so if you bought 2 bottles of each colour at $4.19 equals $25.14 USD and their scale of $8.00 Shipping it would cost $33.14 to my friends place in New York and then what ever shipping from here to you. You might want to look at this page of what Canada post would charge for a box 2"x5.5"x8". You may want to go with another manufactureer that you have access to after you add everything up. I copied their price list for mailing, hope you can read it. The following shows the rate(s) for a parcel of 8.00inch x 5.50inch x 2.00inch weighing 0.5kg. I may have over stated the weight so it might make a bit of difference, but probably not much. ------------------------------------------------------- Purolator International (3 to 4 business days) Base Price $87.24 Delivery confirmation Included Signature option Included Fuel surcharge $7.20 Coverage Included Total $94.44 Xpresspost International (8 business days) Base Price $51.20 Delivery confirmation Included Fuel surcharge $4.22 Coverage Included Total $55.42 International Parcel Surface (See Canada Postal Guide) Base Price $32.35 Fuel surcharge $2.67 Coverage Included Total $35.02 Small Packet International Air (See Canada Postal Guide) Base Price $15.50 Coverage Included Total $15.50 Small Packet International Surface (See Canada Postal Guide) Base Price $7.95 Coverage Included Total $7.95 Please note that the prices quoted are estimates subject to adjustment by Canada Post. International Parcel Air: Invalid Product for the destination. Small Packet International - Light Packet: Item Height exceeds the maximum allowed value. 0.79inch --------------------------------------------------------- It looks like the last two ways of shipping do not qualify for this size box so the cheapest way looks like $35.02. Please use the PM and send me your e-mail address and I will forward the complete PDF that Weavers sent me, then you could tell me what you want and how many and I will put it into work for you. Their prices seem to reasonable everywhere both in the USA and Canada, but the shipping is the KILLER. Hope this helps Jack -- Edited by jamajack at 05/15/2008 12:37 PM PDT

Scalecoat Paint

Thanks guys, another friend in the states has found them in his local hobby shop and is sending them for $10 postage, I can't believe the postage manufacturers put on stuff, like the time I contacted con cor for a couple of 86' boxcars the post to me was nearly $100 for two $9 cars, a friend got then sent to him for $4 post and then sent them to me for $8 cost me $12 in post but saved $80+ the main reason I want Scalecoat is the colors go hard and don't rub off like Badger keeps doing, my F45 is more like a green and light blue now instead of the nice bright colors it was when I first painted it, I know Scalecoat dries better because of the FP45s I have painted, one is Badger and leaves a red film on your fingers when you touch it the other is Scalecoat and is as bright as the day I painted it, the only other option I have had is Floquil and the yellow is totally wrong, it dries but wrong. ]:)

I never like the Badger or Modelflex paints either. I use Floquil Polly Scale acrylics and Delta Creamcoat craft paints (acrylics) exclusively now. Once any acrylic is thoroughly dry, no thinner or solvent, even it's own, will remove it. I use these paints on wood, metal and plastic with great results. You can brush or thin for air brush use any of these paints with water. B-)

I did use Floquil poly scale years ago, I thought it flowed well and had good coloring, can't get it here any more either, the only Floquil here is the solvent based, I DO like it just some of the true railroad colors aren't and they don't have enough of a selection, the basic main roads are catered for but the lesser used stuff just isn't there, a case of note is CNW zeto yellow, the only way to get it is Modelflex, fortunately it dries hard, this is one of the things I have a problem with, some colors are great some are a disaster as far as durability goes, silver is one of the worst, I have stuff I painted 5 years ago and it still rubs off, I do nearly all my trailer rooves with Tamiya silver, it at least dries, the silver Scalecoat on my FP45 is excellent, I think if I hit it with a hammer it would chip off in big chunks but wont rub off, enough rant about paint, just have to now wait for the new colors to get here. ]:) Now isn't that weird. I can't get the Floquil solvent based paints at all here, and they used to be made in Canada too. I can get the Polly Scale here and even shipped from the US. The powers that be that classify these items are living in a cave....... SmileyCentral.com -- Edited by ginzokid at 05/16/2008 5:06 AM PDT

Floquil makes Polly Scale which is arylic. I used to like the FLoquil oil based paint. THe acrylic I like even more. Plus quicker and (safer) to clean up.

One of the things I have always liked with acrylics is if you stuff up you can throw the item in water before it dries and it just washes off, solvent is less forgiving but I find it easier to use, comes from spraying cars and trucks for a living I guess, although N scale is a whole lot smaller. ]:)

I finally found the yellow that microscale recommends for the Santa Fe engines, Scale coat trailer trains yellow, boy what a hassle, no one lists it anymore, I found it from a Canadian seller, it is scalecoat I recommended for metal, hopefully it will work on plastic, I did use scalecoat I on a passenger car before, it is a bit more fiddly but did work in the long term, the price and post was pretty good too, was the same post for 1 or 2 bottles so I got some more silver as well in II series. ]:)
