Why is eBay retiring older versions of the app and trying to force the new one on us? The older versions are far superior and we, the customers, should be able to choose which version we prefer to use.
I have both old and new versions (on separate devices) and have set out a few comparisons below.
Old App
The Home Page shows Watch List, Buying, Selling, Feed, Recent Items, Saved Searches etc. etc. The pictures in each category are grouped together on top of each other making it really easy to find everything. The groups can also be rearranged and deleted as required.
On the Search page there are three lists which can be seen all at once – Recent Searches, Saved Searches and Saved Sellers. All of these lists can be edited and individual searches can be deleted.
Viewing an item for sale is so easy, everything is on one page, you can just pull up the description so you don’t miss any details, just touch the pictures to move from one to another and you can see the sellers other items down the side of the page.
New App
On the Home Page there is just Watch List and Recent Items. Also on that page are Featured Deals and Trending on eBay, both of which I have absolutely no interest in.
On the Search page there are two headings one for Recent and one for Saved. Recent Search items can’t be deleted individually; there is only the option to clear them all. They also disappear completely every so often.
Finally and very important, on the old app you can change the screen orientation from portrait to landscape. On the new app you can only switch to landscape when looking at pictures in listings – crazy.
Not everyone’s device will have the required operating system so they will not be able to ‘update’ the app in any case.
So please eBay reconsider your decision to dispense with a great little app in favour of a not so great one. Please keep the older apps working for those of us who want to use them – where’s the harm?
