I have a 2020 Motorola Moto 5G which the ebay app worked up until so many months ago this year and stopped. I have the latest android thanks to Lineage and have ran Lineage since 2021.
Yet ebay says "This app wont work for your device" now when I try to download it from the app store.
I am assuming that's a Google problem because they are looking at the device identity and not the OS version to come to this determination. I'd really like to get notices of purchases and not have to replace a perfectly working phone just for the ebay app. No really, I'm not buying a new phone when my phone functions.
😡
Possible Fix: Use "Aurora Store" as a bypass.

Somehow I managed to get around Google Play's check/verification and installed it using Aurora Store. I tried before but something was different this time and it worked. 🤔

Ditch the app and just use the web browser and go to the site.

If you really do have a recent version of Android and the problem with the app is just that Google does not recognize the OS version number because you are using Lineage, you might try downloading a recent eBay APK from a trusted site and installing it directly rather than using Google Play Store to try to install it. Not sure what Android version eBay actually needs these days -- I have seen 10 mentioned, but that may be outdated by now, and it is probably not worth trying this unless you are at Android 12 or better if you want more than a very temporary solution.
I have not done this myself, so I do not know if that will work for you and your specific setup, but there may be some particular version that may allow you to continue to use the eBay app to get notifications.

Non solution. I do not get notices.

The app was working fine for years. The version of lineage didn't change when it stopped working. I tried to install the apk directly, it did not work.

The issue is also present on my Android devices using stock rom with a locked bootloader. The recent update broke eBay causing me to miss out on eBay live drops to buy stuff.

Many of us are in the same boat. Our devices are too old to work with the new technology.
My laptop is also in trouble with the new Windows coming in October.
I will have to determine if I can work with it the way it is, or buy a new one.

Although Ebay members may keep their phones and devices for longer than the bulk of the public, becoming obsolete is a risk of much of the technology we use.
You may discover the Ebay app to be the first of many apps to stop working and updating.

I made the transition to Linux 6 months before Windows 7 support ended. You can use a virtual machine within your computer, swap in a second hard drive, or use a second computer and start learning Linux.
With a virtual machine you can use snapshots to revert changes to fix mistakes or retry things.
You can also use Timeshift within most linux distros to roll back changes.
I recommend Linux Mint Cinnamon.
