Landscape mode not maintained on messages

Is there any way to maintain landscape mode with messages.  It always switches from landscape to potrait mode on my tablet.

Same here on Samsung Tab A, Oreo 8

The last 2 updates have had this issue. Before that, no problem.

Playstore Feedback:

Messages still open in Portrait mode. Becoming a real PITA. Everything else OK in Landscape. Even sending a message about an item through Contact Seller on item page works in Landscape so something wrong with Messages area viewing mode

Had to roll back to 5.18.1.2 for Samsung Tab A 10.5 on Oreo 8 to get Landscape back. Don't know what was lost from 5.35.x functionality. Looks OK so far for buyer, selling can't say.
