I'm using Firefox on Android, and I deleted the eBay app a while ago, because I got tired of being automatically redirected to the app when looking at a listing from a google search. I'd click the link, and it would open the mobile page in firefox. 5 seconds later, it automatically opened up the app. Now, with the app gone, firefox doesn't understand the redirect link. How do I stop ebay from automatically redirecting me? I can't even read listings anymore, and it's beyond frustrating.

In case anyone stumbles across this thread, I eventually found a solution.
There is a setting in the eBay app that can be seen using the Setting Manager.
Under Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by default -- there is a setting called "Open supported links" holding that down gives three choices: "Open in this app" "Ask every time" and "Don't open in this app". Choose "Don't open in this app".
After doing that, eBay item links in a browser should open in that browser rather than defaulting to the app.

I usually use Chrome in desktop mode on my Android phone. I have the eBay app, but rarely use it if I can help it, and I don't use the mobile site version of eBay on any browser.
My only recommendation is to open your favorite browser, go to eBay.com and use the three dot menu to request the desktop site. If you open a new tab and it tries to deliver the mobile site version or open the app, hit the back button and request the desktop site again.
There is probably a setting to prevent eBay from opening the app from a browser link, but I haven't found it after quite a bit of searching. There is an "open in app" popup that appears when you tap on the android icon next to the address bar in mobile mode, but oddly the eBay app was not one of the choices.

Hi,
I just stumbled onto this thread with my iPad. I have had this same problem with the redirect from my iPad browser to the app. I always prefer browsing on the website over anybody’s app! eBay is the worst for redirecting and I hate it!
I was on the eBay website, using safari on my iPad, and trying to respond to a member’s question about a listing, and add photos, and it continually kept taking me to the dreaded app! I finally found that if I hold the reply button it brings up a menu with several options and all I clicked on was the “open” tab and voila, the response box opened on the website and did not redirect! Yay!
Hope this helps anyone else who may have had this problem! Have a blessed day!

Hi, I'm having this problem and it's seriously aggravating!!! I followed what You wrote, Under Settings: App... But, I don't have "App" Option under My Setting, Or If there is, I can't find it in My eBay Mobile App.
Please Help!!

The Settings I am referring to are located outside of the eBay app itself -- in the Settings Manager for your device. On my phone it is accessed by swiping down from the top of the screen and selecting the gear icon. From there, go the the "Apps" and scroll through the list of all your installed apps to find eBay and go from there.

I want to stop the rubbish app automatically opening too when I'm using safari on iPad, but in the settings I don't have what you refer to on the Ebay app there, any other solutions? thanks

I do not have an iPad, so I am not familiar with the iOS equivalent of the Android Settings Manager.
I was going to suggest that you post on the iOS App board, but I see you have just done that.
For a one-time workaround, you should be able to hold down a link and get choices of how the link opens. But there should also be a default setting somewhere that you can configure.

What “reply” button?

In that particular case the poster was being redirected when trying to reply to an eBay message on the poster's iPad.
For iOS users in general, try tapping and holding whichever link is sending you to the app -- you should be presented with a list of choices about how such links should be opened.
For Android users, try using the setting in the device manager outlined above.

That worked! Thank you very much for helping me sort that out. The eBay app is great for some things, but sometimes it’s better (for me) to be on the web site.
Cheers!

Glad to hear that worked -- you are very welcome!

Hi can you please provide some screenshots as I can't seem to find the steps and options described?

On my Android phone I start by swiping down from the top of the screen and tapping the gear icon to get to the device settings. From there I scroll down and choose "Apps", find "eBay" in the alphabetical list of apps, and then choose "Open by default", tap "Open supported links" and select "Don't open in this app".

this is posted Jan 18, 2020. Chrome version 79
So this took me several minutes to figure out and it is frustrating for those of us who need assistance with things like this.
If you are on a Chromebook you will need to swipe up go to the ebay app and press/click and hold for options, press/click app info, look for more settings and permissions, inside that menu is Advanced open stor by default, press/tap/click on open by default and in there you can change you setting of "Open supported links" to not open in the app. I hope this helps anyone who has been bugged by this for some time.
